Cool, not bad looking fire engines.
My hometown of Lakefield MInnesota has these 3 of 7 fire trucks and 25 Volunteers.
This Morning October 23, 2008 someone activated the fire alarm in the building where I work when a piece of test equipment began smoking when electrical wires over heated. The NAS North Island Federal Fire Department was summened to the scene. These two fire engines responded.

Nice! On the old one did you blur the outside of the engine?
Engine 51, reminds me of the old "Emergency" TV show of the late 70's or early 80's. I kinda expected Kevin Thige and Randolph Mantooth to roll by in the Squad.
Emergency 51. That fire station used in credits is over in Carson next to 405fwy and the Wilmington Ave on ramp and the Chevy dealer.

Yes, used Gaussian blur just to isolate it a bit more. Kinda over did it.

The first day I rode at 51s, we were actually kind of busy. MI at the nurse's station, a car fire, a person passed out in line at Back to the Future, ill person at City Walk, and an alarm call. We also did two standbys for explosions on the back lot. The second one was a car they blew up, we take cover behind the patrol. Boom! They blow the car, we stand up, the firefighter says "Hey, where did the hood go?" and on cue, it lands behind us, like straight out of a movie.
Second day I rode with them, Labor Day, turned out it was the busiest day in the history of Universal Studios to that point. You think we ran any calls? Nope.

Yep they do, but they're issued out to agencies by the California Office of Emergency Services, with the intent of having each agency provide crews for OES strike teams across the state *should they be needed*. So LACo didn't have to pay a dime for the engine.
Myself, I loooove the Type 3s.

They
do have to provide basic maintenance on the OES rigs and they can be used as needed for LACoFD purposes, but they cannot be
assigned as first-due apparatus. The station up here in Newbury Park by my parent's house has a
BRAND NEW OES type 1. If Engine 35 is down (It broke down yesterday as a matter of fact, KME- Keeping Mechanics Employed) they can use it in place of E35 for a period of time (I was told once, 2 weeks) as the first-due engine, but even so, the minute OES calls, it's gotta go. (E35 has a specific reserve assigned, E133, but E133 is being used as E33, so they're in OES 246 today)
Here's another of the type IIIs, assigned to Murrietta

Right, I wasn't sure if cash for maintenance came in the form of a grant or whatnot. Good call on the temporary use for the engine, Hemet has done that with theirs on occasion. Love the KME comment <laughing>
While we're on the subject, here's an OES Type 3 from Oceanside. :) May be a repost.

From what I understand, in exchange for being able to use the OES rigs for intra-department uses, the department covers the costs of basic maintenance, oil, filters, pine tree air fresheners, wear and tear type items, and the state picks up the tab for any sort of major maintenance.
At least that is how it was explained to me a few years back.

Federal Fire Engine One at NAS North Island and the Ambulance from Fire Station One. This Station is located between runway 11-29 and the North Island base beach, just west of The Island Club. These guys come by the Midway Hanger periodically to look at the aircraft in work in our hanger. They also come by to check our Fire Extinguishers and our Haz Mat locker. Todays visit was a social visit. Some of the volunteers think they were bored in the station house and just got on the truck and went for a drive.

my trip to Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago was two-fold. The was the PHX Spotters/NYC Aviation get together, but I also had friends who I travel with to do fire apparatus photography. It was a great weekend for both. I'll post just a few here. While the aviation spotters were on the hill or just getting ready for the event at the theme building, my friends and I were on the Airport grounds. First FS 80, which houses the crash trucks (which I haven't processed yet) and FS 51, which is the structure station and is primary for the terminals at LAX. Here are the engine and ambulance that are stationed there...
