Proteus was up again today...this time taking off from Rwy 8 due to the "backward" winds.

Great catch. I've been wanting to get a shot of this one. What would be the best way to go about it?
Canon stuff.

Me too, looks cool 8)

The last several week, it's been flying almost daily, generally leaving between 8am and 10am. Usually, with standard winds, it leaves on Rwy 12, so would be able to be shot from the south east side of the airport. I could start tweeting when I see it out on the ramp, if that would be helpful (I'm "helofixr" at tweeter).

Nice one Alan.  I guess that's a retro scheme before they shut down?

Yeah, it was a special one-off retro scheme. I did a short article on it when it arrived at Mojave with some background info, here: http://mojaveskies.blogspot.com/2008/06/flower-power.html#links

MiG-15 N515MG showed up today and taxied over to the school. I missed the landing, unfortunately. It's been here before, for use by the students as their "final project", which is to design a flight test program for an aircraft they've never seen before. Also, and this is for Robin, one of the school's OH-58s was up. If you look close, you'll see that the front is flat black and the back is glossy...it's used as an NVG trainer, and whoever painted it actually painted flat black flames reaching back into the glossy area.

Again, nice catches. Mohave is truly one of those "you never know what you're going to get" kinds of places.

I'm curious how you guys handle flying in those wicked winds you get during the summer?
Canon stuff.

You mean those wicked winds we have right now? Actually, it's not bad at the moment, 30 kts gusting 43. We're good up to about 50 kts. Hey, that's the beauty of a helicopter...just point the nose into the wind and the machine thinks it's flying.

We always stop in Mojave throughout the summer while traveling to Reno and Mammoth. Sometimes it feels like the wind is going to take your car door off when you open it.
