Great shots guys, I still need some airborne shots of the Coast Guard myself. Almost got some in Hawaii but he was too far away and I only had a 250mm with me :'(

Guess your work/live near by.  So it was a USMC one then?

I live under the flightpath. Im guessing it was a KC-130J, i didnt hear it till it was very close.  At first i thought it was just some GA stuff out of Fullerton airport till i ran out and looked. Gears down it was a gray bird. I dont think it was a C-130T as they are louder than the J's i think.

kick Z tail out

Great shots guys. I really miss our Hemet Valley Flying Service C-130A air tankers. Not to mention the entire USFS operation being based here with CDF. Now that they've moved away, we don't get the variety of Neptunes, Orions and DC-4/C-54s that we used to get. Bummer.

Word on the street though is that the plans are continuing to be worked out to lengthen the runway at Hemet, and if so the Forest Service is talking about bringing it back home and not using SBD. :) In fact, they recently re-opened a temporary aviation office here again, supposedly in anticipation of what the next few years will bring. I know I'm lovin' that idea. Those of you that make trips to SBD more often probably wouldn't be too pleased with that though.

Back on the C-130 subject... Back in the mid 90s I went on a flight (C-130H) with the California ANG unit out of Channel Islands (Pt Mugu). What a blast that was. We went over the islands, up the coast, then buzzed down the coastal ranges at low level. They went ahead and did some serious maneuvering to show us that a big Herc is fully capable of making people sick. We had a few people puking. Not me of course, I loved it. :D The view out the cockpit from behind the commander's seat is awesome. We were at low level, and I was looking over the shoulders of the air crew as they picked their way through the hills. Great memories.
