That could possibly be a field trip there... Might be worth trying to call them and see if we could arrange access for a few hours during operations... Something for the future. Similar to FenceCheck's Photocalls. We shall call them APSC Field Trips instead for obvious reasons.

I was out in Joshua Tree this weekend and a 400 acre fire started over the ridgeline from my in laws.

I sat out there all afternoon sipping tea and watched the air attack execute with CDF and Fire helos, Neptune, Tracker and a Seat retardant droppers, and the OV-10 FAC.  Airplanes flying right over the house and the ridgeline!!!  ;D ;D ;D

A CDF Huey with a bucket underneath had to dive down toward the ridgeline and turn out as the Neptune was coming from his 12 o'clock on  a retardant run through the smoke.  Crazy stuff.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me.   >:(

Watching from the begining of the fire until I left 3.5 hours later was VERY interesting.  Those folks jumped on it real quick.  Neat to see the air campaign evolve and shift strategies in the fight.

Here is some freelancer's photos:

Man, aint that the truth! I was up in Mammoth last year and actually had my camera with me with a long lens but opted to leave it back at the condo thinking that I wouldn't need it. Wouldn't you know it, I was sitting in the parking lot of Crowley lake and not one, not two, but three C-130's come racing (and I do mean racing) low across the lake in front of me with the sun perfectly positioned behind me. I'm left sitting there shaking my head.
