Another video, this one from El Centro.

I like this one because it really portrays the intensification that happened near the end of the quake. Notice how it's steady in it's intensity but once he steps outside, that's when the power of the quake suddenly ramps up.

I'm sure NAFEC suffered some damage considering how close it is to a couple of these aftershocks plus the initial shock.
Yep, not to mention most of the buildings there were built in the 40s, just like the city of El Centro itself. Lots of damage reports coming in now from the city, I can only imagine that the base has some as well.

Yes it sure was a good shaker near El Centro. Hmmm. . . It would probably knock us off of hay bale.

From what I've heard 80% of all buildings in El Centro have some sort of damage to them. The activity has started to move north though, Julian and Ocotillo Wells are pretty active now.

The bales are probably all knocked over  <laughing> or not as tall as they were.

Looks like USGS has just said that the event was 2 separate earthquakes 30 seconds apart.  There was the the 7.2 that they originally claimed, and then 30 seconds later a 6.6 10 miles SW of NAF El Centro.

Wow, that's pretty wild. I think that's the most immediate triggered quake I've ever heard of.

guess it was a glitch in their program, because now it is gone.

Had another good aftershock just now, 5.5

Does anyone know if NAFEC airfield is closed as a result of the earthquake?

I have been in San Diego all week teaching and the C-2s from NI have been doing touch and goes at Miramar most of the week.

I usually don't see the Grayhounds at Miramar...

The NEX (base exchange) is still closed, I guess they had several buildings in question after the quake that have since been cleared to operate.

They may be in the process of repairs, although nothing about air ops has been mentioned publicly. I wondered if there would be a concern for the runways with a quake that large being so close. The runways were constructed in the 1940s, just like the buildings on base.

I was at work in building 472 when the 5.5 went through. I could feel the whole building shake.  Building 472 covers an entire city block.

Also 3-4 very quick aftershocks. The 5.5 hit at 9:53 by my watch, the last aftershock that I felt was at 10:10AM.

The 3 closest places for FCLP's are Miramar, El Centro or Point Mugo.

Felt like a little roller up here in the South Bay tonight.

How was it down there?
