A 2nd pass at LAX for A380
By Art Marroquin
The Airbus A380 is scheduled to make a second test landing at Los Angeles International Airport next month to make sure the facility is ready to handle the world's largest airliner.
No passengers will be aboard the super-jumbo jet, but the plane's double-decked cabin is expected to be equipped with seats in first, business and coach classes this time around.
[snip]
The A380's landing at LAX will be less complicated this time around because the plane will take off and land on the south airfield, which is now capable of handling the mega-jetliner, thanks to a $330 million renovation project.

Airbus plan for city officials won't fly
By Art Marroquin, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 11/07/2007 11:41:02 PM PST
Rather than taking a free, hourlong flight on the world's largest aircraft, Los Angeles
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other local dignitaries will have to settle for touring
the plane on the runway.
The jaunt - taking off from LAX with a quick return - was grounded this week because it
would have violated a state law and city ethics provisions that keep politicians from
accepting extravagant gifts, according to an opinion from the City Attorney's Office.

Is anyone going to check it out one of those days? Let me know because I might go, I hope I don't work on those days lol.
Not myself, too busy. :(
A380 spotting form the hill? I'm in!
Fri morning departure for sure, I have that day off!
We'll see if I can get out there for Wed or Thurs.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- 11/21/07 -- The Airbus A380 -- the world's largest airliner -- is scheduled to revisit the U.S. West Coast when it lands at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 11:45 a.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007. The visit is being conducted by Airbus, Qantas Airways and Los Angeles World Airports to test airport function and compatibility in anticipation of Qantas' A380 passenger service at LAX, which is scheduled to begin Fall 2008.
After landing on Runway 25 Left on the south side of LAX, the aircraft will taxi to the Flight Path Learning Center in the LAX Imperial Terminal at 6661 West Imperial Highway. NO ceremony is scheduled for the arrival. This is a media opportunity only.
Media are invited to tour the interior of the fully configured 500-seat Airbus aircraft between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Airbus has limited media access to 112 tickets to be distributed on a first come-first served basis during this hour. Initially, each media outlet will be limited to one tour ticket, with the exception of television media, which will be limited to two tickets (reporter and cameraperson). This is to ensure that each media outlet interested in touring the interior has an opportunity to have a representative do so.
On Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will conduct an early-morning media availability on the tarmac and then go onboard to greet passengers invited by Qantas and Airbus to participate in a demonstration flight over Southern California. The demonstration flight will have approximately 150 guests plus media pool onboard. The flight will depart at 7:30 a.m. and return at 9:30 a.m.
On Friday, Nov. 30, the aircraft will depart as Flight No. MSN 007 on Runway 25 Left to Sydney, Australia, piloted by a joint Airbus-Qantas flight crew.
EVENT MEDIA CREDENTIALS:
For security purposes, ALL media must pre-register with LAX Public Relations by 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday, Nov. 26, if planning to attend any or all of the media opportunities. ALL media opportunities will occur on airport property and are not open to the public. No "walk-ins" will be permitted.
All media representatives must bring government-issued photo I.D. to the media check-in desk at the Flight Path Learning Center for credentials that will be valid for Nov. 28, 29 and 30. All media will be subject to security screening prior to entering the center. For pre-registration, contact LAX Public Relations at (310) 646-5260 or e-mail Diane Baker at dbaker2@lawa.org.
ALL contracted satellite and microwave companies, as well as freelance photographers and videographers working on assignment for media, must fax verification on media's letterhead signed by that editor to LAX Public Relations at (310) 646-1894.
FOR ALL RESPONDENTS, PLEASE PROVIDE NAME, ORGANIZATION, PHONE NUMBER AND E-MAIL SO THAT WE MAY SEND YOU CONFIRMATION AND PARKING INSTRUCTIONS. FOR PLANNING PURPOSES, PLEASE INDICATE WHICH EVENT(S) YOU PLAN TO ATTEND.
Because the TV news stations will not know what news crew they will send out to cover the event(s), LAX Public Relations will accept several names from each TV station, but each TV station will be limited to only two tickets for the interior aircraft tours scheduled on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m..
MEDIA POOL:
Media are invited to cover all events listed below. A media pool that will be on the Thursday morning demonstration flight is still in development with the following organizations confirmed to participate in the media pool. These organizations have agreed to share their onboard coverage AFTER they land:
-- Photos -- Associated Press at (213) 346-3140
-- Photos -- Qantas photographer at Qantas PR (310) 641-2525
-- TV footage -- KABC-TV at ((818) 863-7500
-- Print reporter -- Daily Breeze reporter Art Marroquin at (310) 543-

-- Spanish-language print reporter -- (TBD)
-- Spanish-language TV footage -- (TBD)

No prob, but all credit for the times should go to Kevin.
I am going to try and stop by one of the days. All the departure and arrival times are too early for me to get off of work. :-\
Hope to see you there Damon ;D

Once I know what day I will let ya all know.
Will try to get off work to see the A380 at the different times next week and shoot from ?the hill?. The first time the A380 came in I could not make it down there so I watched it land live on the Internet.
That would be great having a small group of APSC 8) at the arrival of the A380.
Hope to you see you there too Midnight. ;D
Thursday morning looks good for me, but now I need to know where to go. I don't know where "the hill" is. Many years ago there was a hill I used to visit on the West end of the North runway, but it's now all fenced off.
Hey Wolf, I see you live in Torrance.... Since you are coming from the South... Hop on "Sepulveda North" bound and on "Imperial HWY" make a LEFT then on "Main ST" you are going to make another LEFT and then a quick LEFT turn again on "Imperial AVE" go up until you see a US Flag on your left hand side.
Thanks Fernando, I may even make it for the arrival on Wed.
No problem Wolf, we hope to see you there on Wednesday too.
LAX Lot B may be better for the arrivals. You get 2H of parking for free there.
I wonder how long the A380 rollout will be?
She may never get to the hill and just pull right up to Flightpath instead.
Then again, I think they towed her last time over to Flight Path infront of the hill. Will they taxi her this time?
Kevin

intresting.... I wish I had a jetpack ;D
Probably go Wed while they have the media tours as it will probably be at the museum then. After work. Going to ask to get off early.

Hi Wolf, I think I know the Hill you speak of and it was nice there just off Pershing, but yes it close to all traffic and pedestrians. :-\. Been closed since 9-11.
yeah I am going to go after work on Wednesday and should be here by 2pm or before if anyone is there at that time. Will try and shot thru fence.

Thanks for the info aero, still trying to get to lunch early @11:45AM for arrival. If I make it I will go to E. Imperial ave. ?THE HILL? at the flagpole.
Cleaning digital dust,
Smoke on,??? ready now! ;D
I'm going tomorrow for sure and I'm going to go to The Hill too. Where can we park if we go there? any suggestions? And Kevin Thanks so much for the info ;D
Sheldon St. is looking good, actually anywhere off imperial is good.
Just like Black Friday, Free Free Free.....
Just FYI, and to make the group jealous, I lived on "THE HILL" on imperial for about a year and a half. 8) Cool to watch jumbos from the living room. Wife was not as happy as I was, had to move. :'(
Then Moved back to Torrance. :)
Yes, in the flight pattern of the airport. :D
That must of been nice for you :o
Alright I'm back from "The Hill" and all I can say is "WOW!" I met John or "Wolf" up there on The Hill but not until the end of the show because I was telling him how I found out about the A380 coming back to LAX. I told him that I found the information on APSC website and that I'm a member too, he was.... "who are you?" I told him Fernando then he told me that he was "Wolf." LOL! That was cool, OH and we were shoulder to shoulder all along. ;D
Great chatting with you Fernando. We need a way of identifying other members in a crowd. I didn't expect that many people up there on the hill. Maybe tomorrow morning will be different, I'll be wearing a cap with "Safari Yellowstone" printed on front.
Haha, nice. Yeah thats where the ID comes in. Soon as the patches come in, I'll look more into the IDs.
Here are my photo's that I took with John AKA- Wolf.
Great shots guys. Downloading now.
Thanks Damon, I'm going to upload 3 more. ;D
One for now. Use mono pod and timer
One more again with 737.
After looking at that first shot I realized that it was way over worked in photoshop. That's what I get for using those plug-ins. Here's another try with very little post-processing.
Very cool shots guys. :)
Here are my last 3 pictures even though I took like 1 million, LOL! ;D

Haha! I agree Josh. ;D
Back from ?the hill?, got there about 10 minutes before the plane landed. Got there too late to get a good spot. Here is the best photo I could get of the landing with the tree in the way. >:(
I forgot my chain saw. ::)
I think this will be a good spot to shoot the take off tomorrow.
Must get there early to secure a good spot above the power lines.
Is anyone going to the 7:30 AM tomorrow?

Nice shot Wolf, this is the one I was trying to get when that tree jumped in front of my camera.
Wolf, Fernando, and Damon, sorry I missed you guys. I just about missed it. I got their, shot a few and then had to run back to work.
I have to be in a meeting for work at 9AM but I should be able to get there around 6:45AM and hopefully the airbus will keep its scheduled departure time.
I definitely agree we need a way of identifying other members in a crowd. The patches should be a big help. Tomorrow I will be wearing all black, with a camouflage baseball cap and a very large black tarmac bag.
I might be there at 7am or 7:30am I will be wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans, oh and with a Bruins/UCLA cap. At the hill I will be though 8)

Hey Midnight you probably were next to me and Wolf, what were you wearing? ???
I used the delay timer and monopod. I would pre-focus and lift and and hope it was centerd. From about 30 shots there are 5-6 good ones (posted) with little or no cropping.
Nice! I need to buy a monopod for shots like those.
Hey Fernando, you remember that bird that flew up to us. It was an American Kestral.

Nice and Thnx for the name! You looked it up on the internet? because my friend did and he couldn't find it lol. I'll let him know btw, is that like a little hawk?
I posted a picture of it on another board I frequent and they ID'd it right away. It's a rapscor like the hawk, but I don't know anymore about them, except I see them hover quite a bit, and they can even back up in flight.
Kestrals are awesome, I didn't know they were around LAX...

Not too much. My brother in law was holding an umbrella which helped a little.
I kept the camera under my jacket until she was rolling down the runway.
30 sec of water can't hurt too much.
