They update late, but that should be the link. I will post more info when available ;)
They have cancelled before when no T-birds.
March always has pull - I'm surprised they didn't get them.

I looked at both schedules and nothing but it could be the Patriots they don't have a schedule yet or some other team. If anyone knows chime in ;)
Website is up.
ACC lists F-15E East, F-22 East, HF F-86 & P-38
Navy lists SuperBug TACDEMO.
CDF leased DC-10 supposedly making a return appearance.
Patriot Jets as the headliner.
"Shmuck" aside - should be a good show.

I'm there <rocker>
Im there as well (really don't have a choice)....

Jim uses one. I don't know that I'd trust myself not to fall while panning. <laughing>
Only really used the ladder to get up on top of the hay last year at El Centro. <laughing>
Just be careful of the head gal at the Museum. In '08, when I asked about using one of the maintenance platforms to get shots over the fence for Pacific Flyer, that "lady" wanted to charge me THREE HUNDRED FLIPPIN DOLLARS to share one with some photogs! :o >:(

with the exception of taxiing aircraft most of the flying is going to be over the fence anyway, i just stood back from it and was able to get just about everything, i did 90% of my shooting at the far north end of the museum lot and i cant imagine anyone caring down at that end, just my opinion!
If someone had an RV, I'm sure shooting from the top from the museum side would be much better than a $300 platform. ;) (If they allowed it that is.)
It says "front row seats" whatever that means.
Here is the RV agreement: (Note: Space assigned in order of receiving)

Of course I'm on the go list for this one. This is probably one of the better line ups March has had, except that there's no T-birds.
Same here, I will be there for sure.
Agreed on the lineup. Superbug, Strike Eagle, Raptor... As far as tac demos go this thing is gonna be kick ass. Museum is really gonna kick ass with those tac demos.
Yep i can't wait for this one...I'll be there Saturday. Should be a big APSocal turn out like Riverside....hopefully with better results!

I'm probably going to be out there for arrival, practice, and the show on Sunday.
Same here, last time we saw a F-15(s) here was in 2008, its been too long.
Anyone see the latest long term forecast? Intellicast is calling for rain through the whole weekend... :-\ Let's hope that it will change within the next week. Hey Nick (venom1) needs to give us a weather forecast.

Yeah, I've been watching it on the weather models the past few weeks and they haven't flipped at all in 2 weeks which is extremely odd. Right now that weekend is sitting on what I call the, "1 week bubble," where the models can't show everything accurately. But it does look like rain Friday-Saturday night and maybe Sunday. I'm hoping it does change within the next few days. I'll keep everyone updated.
Thanks Nick, your always on top of things ;)
Okay good news and bad news weather wise since the models have moved up. The models have changed. It will rain, but it looks like it will happen part of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Leaving the weekend mostly clear of anything. There still maybe some lingering clouds and maybe some ceiling issues Saturday morning/early afternoon maybe, Sunday looks clear all around. I'm hoping it doesn't kick the marine layer in and the haze after it passes which is notorious for this time of year at March. (as most of us know ::) ) But more than likely the storm is going to screw with arrivals and practice day. I'll still keep everyone updated since stuff can change between now and then, but that's what it looks like as of now to me and not our wonderful National Weather Service Office in San Diego.

AirFest static displays
Blog on April 18th, 2010 2 Comments
We've been writing a lot lately about all the pilots and aircraft who will be performing at the show. But equally important and fun are the aircraft coming to the show that will be parked on the ramp* for your exploration delight.
We have historic aircraft, cutting edge aircraft, military aircraft, civilian aircraft , and yes folks, even unmanned aerial vehicles. In some cases there will be just one of a type of aircraft, in other cases, there will be several. A few of our static displays are not aircraft, but it's all cool stuff to see.
Here's a list of the static aircraft we will have at our show. If the list looks long, that's because it is. There will be almost 90 aircraft at the AirFest this year!
AT-6 | F-86 USAF Heritage | P-38 USAF Heritage | Pitts S-2B | Extra 300 | ZLIN-50 | Smoke & Thunder Jet Car | F-6F / F-4U Legacy Flight | L-39 | Oracle Modified Pitts | DC-10 Air Tanker | T-33 | F-22 | F-18 | C-17 | F-15E | KC-135 | C-45 | T-28 | C-53D / PT-22 / L-4 | C-45H / T-28 | A-4D | T-5 Provost | CH-21B | UH-1B and OH-58 from the Wings and Rotors Museum| Riverside Police | L.A. Police Department | Civil Air Patrol | California Highway Patrol |Customs UH-60 | Riverside Co. Sheriff | B-25 | Cessna 182 | T-41 and T-34 from the March Aero Club | RV-3A | C-21 | C-5 | F-15 | F-16 | KC-135 | T-1 | T-6 | T-38 | C-9 | MH-60 | mini-C-17 | C-130J | Predator | T-43 | B-52
Of course, I'm wondering how all these aircraft will get to our base, so I asked the Operations Officer for the AirFest, Major Andy Ormiston. He said all but six aircraft** will be flying themselves to base, even the World War II-era P-38 Lightning. Sounds like it's going to be a busy day up at the aircraft control tower!
Megan

*Air show technicality: static displays. While most of the "static" aircraft at the air show stay parked in one place for the duration of the show, the performance aircraft are also static displays you can explore...except when they're overhead, awing the crowd.
**Air show technicality: towed arrivals. The six aircraft that are not flying to the air show are aircraft from the March Field Museum, which is just across the runway from March Air Reserve Base. That would be one short flight!
Looks amazing!!
Weather forecast is looking totally different now. Slight chance of rain tuesday, nice the rest of the week. Even the temperatures look awesome.

I was hoping to be there on thursday for some of the early arrivals, but I rented a lens and it's showing up thursday... so I'm going to have to sit home and wait for it. :(
300mm is doable but 400mm and up would be even better. :)
So does anybody know when the Demo teams and Statics will arrive? What time?
I may go Friday for the practice, and Saturday for the regular show.

I personally know the pilot of one of the civilian statics and he was told to arrive friday afternoon. Friday they should stream in all day long between the practice demos, but I imagine some will even start coming in on thursday.
I will be out at the museum on Friday.
The weather does look to hold now. This storm looks to be on the weaker side as well, but Tuesday-Thursday looks like its impact time. Expect upper 60's low 70's for the rest of the week. :) Good weather Ju-Ju!

I'll probably be out there on the museum side both days for the water drops........
Will likely be heading out on Friday. Is the show open to the public on Friday?
Who all is going to the Musuem on Friday?
I * think * I am going to Media Day Fri.
I plan to do Sat from the museum side for the 1st time.

I have a special media pass for thursday through sunday. It's hard to decide where I want to go considering the best shots are from OFF base. <laughing>

Oh nothing crazy. Just the Bigma. I had good luck with the one David let me borrow at El Centro so I figured I'd try it out at my first show.

I'll be there on Sunday as well.
I'll be there both days (sat&sun). Most likely shoot from on base ;), looks like we have off base covered ;)
Here are some arrivals to start out... :)
Nice!!!!!!! That B-52 angle is real cool, Jim! <cheers>
Well it figures. None of those guys could show up in the morning. ::) I should have figured they'd be coming in late though, since the Air Force runs on banker's hours, and most of those aircraft were leaving the east coast. Wish I would have just gone home and slept after working all night. But nooo... I thought I might see something early.
I think I heard the Strike Eagles as I got into bed too. Was it around 1pm or 1:30 ish? I'm guessing. I heard what sounded like more than one fast moving jet powered machine roaring over my house in south west Hemet. I imagined it was probably the pair of F-15s. I was too pissed to even look out the window <laughing>
Travel pods on the F-15E are pretty sweet!
A lot of luggage for one guy.
Nate (kick Z) texted me this morning since he's out at practice today. He's telling me winds are blowing 20+mph out there today. I checked some things and the wind is going to kick up again to at least 20mph tomorrow as well for anyone going Saturday. Sunday the wind doesn't look to be around. The wind is coming in from the NNW-NW. So anyone on the base side is going to have a nice head wind all day Saturday.
Guys i need some info!!! How do i get there from hollywood area ??? i know i have to take 10 east,60east,91?? then 71 ??? and then what???

Well, that's just peachy. How crowded will the museum be on Saturday? Figure I will try to get there as soon as the gates open, shoot the statics and race out to the museum to shoot the planes not being backlit.
Just watch out going into the museum, I tried going in and they wanted to inspect my camera backpack, which I had no problem with. They then told me I could not bring in my 100-400 lens because it was a professional Lens, and that they would have to charge me $250.00 to shoot from inside the museum.
Some Raptor shots.
Well, then I guess I'm screwed. No real reason to go shooting into the sun. Guess I'll wait for Nellis.
Ken, you can still go. I shot from the parking lot next to the museum.
But by the time I go in and shoot the statics, then try to get off base, there's not going to be anywhere to park. Should have gone today. Was under the impression they were not going to fly a practice show.

Thats weird. I was in the museum area and they just told me not to shoot the base. I had a 300 f/4 with a 1.4 tele. The two people next to me both had 100-400s. We were at the bleachers sitting with museum people and no one had any problems.

From the museum:
I don't think the museum is going to be inspecting bags tomorrow. Too much workload. Today, when nobody was there, maybe... but not tomorrow. I think you'll be good. I'm planning on going still. Today was a blast.
GREAT first day ;D ;D ;D ;D
Got the great opportunity to get on base today and take a C-17 flight. Flight took off out of March at around noon, and we headed south towards San Diego. We headed out over the Pacific around Carlsbad and flew toward NALF San Clemente. On the way out we did a simulator quick decent, which consisted of throwing on the thrust reverser and descending at 17,000 feet per minute! We continued onto San Clemente and practice a missed approach. After that we crossed over Avalon at Catalina then headed back towards March ARB. We ended up orbiting over Banning while the Super Bug finished it's demo. I got to ride up in the cockpit for the landing (Sorry Kevin, Scissors beat paper...) and we were supposed to come in over the field at 15,000 feet and spiral down in the tactical descent, but since we had to wait for the F/A-18 we ran out of time and just came in over the field towards the museum. So if any one has any close-ups on that C-17 flight (i doubt it...) that would be cool.
Anyways had an awesome time and the group that helped us at March was great!

I saw them taking photos of the crowd around us, but I didn't know one of the them took a picture of me.
A few from Sunday.
Those of us who were on the Fri noon C-17 Media Flight would be interested is seeing photos of the departure if anyone has them.
We know what it felt like, but not what it looked like.

OK. Here are some shots taken from the museum side. Any members on the bleachers under the KC-97 wing?

Just watch out going into the museum, I tried going in and they wanted to inspect my camera backpack, which I had no problem with. They then told me I could not bring in my 100-400 lens because it was a professional Lens, and that they would have to charge me $250.00 to shoot from inside the museum.
I think they didn't know what they were doing to be honest. They asked me if it was a professional lens, I know better than to say yes. The woman who checked me was hesitant, but she let me in. I was the first one to go into the museum when it opened. I honestly think it was one person not knowing what to do. Like it was said, they were telling everyone not to shoot the base (same woman told me), but then everyone was shooting the base out there, and we had several museum staff talking to us. I figured they were out there to watch us, but if they were, they said nothing when we'd point the cameras at the base as the aircraft landed.
Nice shootin' Ken! Love the DC-10 shots.
What equipment are you using?
:o You've just received a most excellent award!

Thanks. He thought it was so he asked Ralph if he could tell if it was one or not. It did look like one from a distance.

I like that C-5 shot.
Yeah, that's a heck of a perspective. Don't see too much of that around here.

Your 10-22mm?
More than likely, yes. Can't think of any lens other than the 16-35mm on a FF body.
