Per the 10/29/07 Torrance Daily Breeze:
A 2nd pass at LAX for A380
By Art Marroquin

The Airbus A380 is scheduled to make a second test landing at Los Angeles International Airport next month to make sure the facility is ready to handle the world's largest airliner.

No passengers will be aboard the super-jumbo jet, but the plane's double-decked cabin is expected to be equipped with seats in first, business and coach classes this time around.

[snip]

The A380's landing at LAX will be less complicated this time around because the plane will take off and land on the south airfield, which is now capable of handling the mega-jetliner, thanks to a $330 million renovation project.

From 11/7/07 Daily Breeze:

Airbus plan for city officials won't fly
By Art Marroquin, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 11/07/2007 11:41:02 PM PST

Rather than taking a free, hourlong flight on the world's largest aircraft, Los Angeles
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other local dignitaries will have to settle for touring
the plane on the runway.

The jaunt - taking off from LAX with a quick return - was grounded this week because it
would have violated a state law and city ethics provisions that keep politicians from
accepting extravagant gifts, according to an opinion from the City Attorney's Office.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- 11/21/07 -- The Airbus A380 -- the world's largest airliner -- is scheduled to revisit the U.S. West Coast when it lands at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 11:45 a.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007. The visit is being conducted by Airbus, Qantas Airways and Los Angeles World Airports to test airport function and compatibility in anticipation of Qantas' A380 passenger service at LAX, which is scheduled to begin Fall 2008.

After landing on Runway 25 Left on the south side of LAX, the aircraft will taxi to the Flight Path Learning Center in the LAX Imperial Terminal at 6661 West Imperial Highway. NO ceremony is scheduled for the arrival. This is a media opportunity only.

Media are invited to tour the interior of the fully configured 500-seat Airbus aircraft between 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Airbus has limited media access to 112 tickets to be distributed on a first come-first served basis during this hour. Initially, each media outlet will be limited to one tour ticket, with the exception of television media, which will be limited to two tickets (reporter and cameraperson). This is to ensure that each media outlet interested in touring the interior has an opportunity to have a representative do so.

On Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will conduct an early-morning media availability on the tarmac and then go onboard to greet passengers invited by Qantas and Airbus to participate in a demonstration flight over Southern California. The demonstration flight will have approximately 150 guests plus media pool onboard. The flight will depart at 7:30 a.m. and return at 9:30 a.m.

On Friday, Nov. 30, the aircraft will depart as Flight No. MSN 007 on Runway 25 Left to Sydney, Australia, piloted by a joint Airbus-Qantas flight crew.

EVENT MEDIA CREDENTIALS:

For security purposes, ALL media must pre-register with LAX Public Relations by 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday, Nov. 26, if planning to attend any or all of the media opportunities. ALL media opportunities will occur on airport property and are not open to the public. No "walk-ins" will be permitted.

All media representatives must bring government-issued photo I.D. to the media check-in desk at the Flight Path Learning Center for credentials that will be valid for Nov. 28, 29 and 30. All media will be subject to security screening prior to entering the center. For pre-registration, contact LAX Public Relations at (310) 646-5260 or e-mail Diane Baker at dbaker2@lawa.org.

ALL contracted satellite and microwave companies, as well as freelance photographers and videographers working on assignment for media, must fax verification on media's letterhead signed by that editor to LAX Public Relations at (310) 646-1894.

FOR ALL RESPONDENTS, PLEASE PROVIDE NAME, ORGANIZATION, PHONE NUMBER AND E-MAIL SO THAT WE MAY SEND YOU CONFIRMATION AND PARKING INSTRUCTIONS. FOR PLANNING PURPOSES, PLEASE INDICATE WHICH EVENT(S) YOU PLAN TO ATTEND.

Because the TV news stations will not know what news crew they will send out to cover the event(s), LAX Public Relations will accept several names from each TV station, but each TV station will be limited to only two tickets for the interior aircraft tours scheduled on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m..

MEDIA POOL:

Media are invited to cover all events listed below. A media pool that will be on the Thursday morning demonstration flight is still in development with the following organizations confirmed to participate in the media pool. These organizations have agreed to share their onboard coverage AFTER they land:

--  Photos -- Associated Press at (213) 346-3140
--  Photos -- Qantas photographer at Qantas PR (310) 641-2525

--  Spanish-language TV footage -- (TBD)

Will try to get off work to see the A380 at the different times next week and shoot from ?the hill?.  The first time the A380 came in I could not make it down there so I watched it land live on the Internet.

NikonGuy

That would be great having a small group of APSC  8) at the arrival of the A380.
