It's crazy to see that this Mount Wilson fire is burning out of control.  Apparently, it is expected to reach the top throughout the night.  My heart goes out to all the people who are involved in this big incident, as well the ones that have made sacrifices to save others.

They have NOT been playing around with the Oak Glen III Fire. We had numerous DC-10 drops by both 910 and 911 yesterday. This morning, I was shocked to see Tanker 979 (Evergreen's 747 Supertanker) arrive and make 2 drops. Each one being practically as large as the DC-10s full load.  :o

If I'm not mistaken, this would be the first official use of the 747 fighting a live fire in California, if not the US. Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Then 910 came back through one more time a couple hours later. Otherwise they've had Tanker 27, two SEATs, and three S-2s (72, 73, 75) on it.

Is this an APSOCAL exclusive? Great catch.

Here are some general pics of the Station Fire, as seen from down in Soledad Canyon. For this set, rather than close-up pics, I wanted to provide more of a perspective of the fire and the ops, so some of the pics don't even have planes in them (horrors!).

Hawaii Mars has been rattling windows at my house all week. I had to wait until Friday to take a chance and head up to the lake in hopes that they would do it again. They did, so I finally got some good shots of it up close.

I'm shocked that they're still down here. It's december! I figured they'd be back in Canada by now.
