Hangar 24 Craft Brewery's anniversary party to feature air show

4/1/2013 Greg Cappis, Staff Writerredlandsdailyfacts.com

Hangar 24 Craft Brewery in Redlands is celebrating its fifth anniversary with an air show on May 18. Fireworks will be shooting from an airplane above Redlands on May 18 - part of Hangar 24 Craft Brewery's fifth anniversary celebration.  The party will take place at Redlands Municipal Airport and include live music, more than 30 beers on tap, catered food and display planes from two museums.

Ben Cook, owner and master brewer at Hangar 24, was involved in the Redlands air show until its last run in 2010 and attended many others."It's going to be unlike any air show that has gone on anywhere," Cook said. The cost to attend will most likely run between $5 and $10, according to Cook, who said all the proceeds will benefit Hangar 24 Charities, which supports orange groves.

Display airplanes from the Palm Springs Air Museum and Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino will be grounded at the airport for guests to view and pose with for photos. "There will be tons of aircraft," said Robert Bledsoe, director of marketing at Hangar 24.

Hangar 24 will be releasing different beers throughout the day, including ones from their archives that have been aging several years, according to Cook. Food trucks and vendors, a rock climbing wall and the fire department's new engine will also be stationed at the airport during the celebration, according to Bledsoe.

This year's anniversary party will feature more parking than in the past - approximately 70 acres worth."The city has been very helpful," Cook said. The municipality is providing a large parking lot and helped the brewery obtain necessary permits, according to Cook. Shuttle buses will circle the area to pick up people parking on the street. Another bus will run back and forth between the airport and downtown. During the festivities, the brewery will be open for tours, and the tasting room will remain open as well. The festivities are expected to start at 10 a.m. and continue until 10 p.m. on May 18. Sometime after nightfall a performer will take a glider strapped with a jet engine into the dark night sky and launch fireworks from the wings. Cook said the brewery plans to include an air show into every future anniversary party.
