Yes, they flew the borowed ARMY CH-47A from 1980-81 .....testing a SMS. This was a large fan driven rescue basket hung below the CH-47and used for building rescues and other rescue situations. The program was cancelled and the Helicopter returned to the Army. 

   Boeing tried and failed to interest the LAFD IN THE CIVIL CHINOOK MODEL 234 BUT FAILED , THE PRICE WAS TO HIGH.

Small brush fire near Kanan Dune Road Tunnell.  LAFD sent 412 and Crane, 1st one came back along 101.  I thought I heard a 2nd one but was in parking structure but could no hear.  KNX 1070 reporting fire.

I hear ya.  When I was shooting the Lakota and Huey at Camarillo, as soon as they lifted off of the ground and kicked up some dirt, I turned around, squatted and guarded the camera with my life.

As for foot pumps, all I need is my good ol' rocket blower.  I use that thing for practically everything...literally.  It's comical, almost.

Also on a side note...

I spoke with the mechanics at Barton Heliport this weekend and it looks like Copter 17 will finally get painted into the newest colors. So if anyone is interested in getting the "interm" scheme while it lasts, the time to do it is running out...
