Ralph

I'd like to know what is needed to take night shots. Last week it was nice and cold, the sky was very clear and the all the mountains were visible thanks to a very bright moon (it was at about 2:30am). What settings are needed to take night shots?

A few sunsets taken over the year in different seasons.

It's all about getting out there and trying different stuff.  A lot of it depends on what city conditions you have, moon light, there are to many factors to list?  Just get a tripod and go from there.  Sometimes I use aperture setting, other times i use speed settings.  You can mess with the iso settings too.

I took this the other day under about a 2/3 full moon at 9:30pm.  Camera settings were ISO 200, F1.8, 30 seconds.
