       WWRE is an Open House and family event sponsored by the Los Alamitos Area

Chamber of Commerce and the California National Guards Joint Forces Training Base(JFTB).

All activities will take place on the flight line on Los Alamitos Army Airfield (KSLI).

Los Alamitos Army Airfield is the last remaining military airfield in the greater LA/Orange County areas with the longest runways in The OC. Also, the JFTB is the disaster support area for Southern California.

On display will be military aircraft, helicopters, radio controlled airplanes, military and public safety equipment, warbirds and many cars. Aircraft flyovers are planned including airplane static displays

Wings Wheels & Rotors will have various civilian and public safety helicopters with fire, police and military rotorcraft including the media aircraft seen daily in the skies around SoCal will be on display for all visitors. Along with the airplanes and warbirds are helicopter flights in civilian "choppers" for a small fee and free flights in general aviation airplanes by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles for youth interested in aviation between 8 and 17 years of age.

The largest event will be a huge car show including custom cars, new autos, motorcycles and hot rods. Awards to be presented for best cars. There will be many events for the family at WWRE 2009. Additionally, there will be food, including breakfast, music, vendors, displays, demonstrations, flybys and other activities on Sunday, 25 October.

Proceeds to also go to the military Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) funds for armed forces personnel on the base. Vendor space and sponsors opportunities are  available. Both admission and parking are free. Donations accepted. No smoking, dogs or alcohol permitted.  Open to the public. Picture I.D required for entrance to the JFTB.

RE LIVE HISTORY ON A FLIGHT IN A WORLD WAR TWO B-25 AT WWRE:
 "Executive Sweet" to participate at Wing Wheels & Rotors 2009.......

"Executive Sweet", a World War Two B25 Mitchell medium bomber, will be at Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo at Los Alamitos Army Airfield on Sunday, 25 October . Flights around the local area will be offered.

The B25 was manufactured for the Army Air Corps by North American Aviation.
Executive Sweet, tail number 44-30801,was built in Kansas,City, KS as a B-25J in 1944 and was used mostly for training Army bomber crews. Among her long flying history, she was used in the move, "Catch 22". She has twin Wright Double Cyclone engines rated at 1700 hp each. Maximum speed is 275 mph and cruises at 230 mph.
This aircraft has a wing span of 68 feet and weighs 21,000 lbs empty and up to 35k lbs20at full gross weight.


This  type aircraft was the same that was used during the famous Doolittle Raid in April 1942 when 15 "Mitchells" flew off the aircraft carrier USS
Hornet(CV-8) to bomb Japan. Executive Sweet also participated in the Doolittle Raid 50th Anniversary in 1992.

Executive Sweet now belongs to the American Aeronautical Foundation (www.aafgroup.com), a non profit aviation group run by volunteers out of Camarillo Airport. This B-25 also participates in various other airshows and events around the country.


Flights in this aircraft will be offered for $ 425 a seat. A flight of a lifetime...A flight into history...


A ride" experience" flight will be a 30 minute trip around a 25 miles radius of Los Alamitos viewing and exploring the nearby areas. During this time you may take part in experiencing all of the different crew positions onboard the aircraft.
The positions range from tail gunner, waist gunner, top turret gunner and nose gunner/bombardier.

From what Tom told me, just say your media and you can get in at 6am like the show cars.  Also Keith I have a phone #to call for any of your friends who want to bring their SNJ or BT-17 to the show

Anyone know if they fixed their runway? if not i dont think we'll be seeing any fixed wing stuff come in.

My guess: No
why?: i have yet to see a fixed wing military aircraft come in ever since i started living under the landing path. well i i saw a KC-130 once
