How much should I charge?

An operations manager in Van Nuys has contacted me regarding a photo I have on Airliners.net. He has expressed interest in making prints of the photo in two dimensions: 12x18 and 20x30 to hang in his office. He inquired about my pricing; however, I really have no idea where to start. I did look up his email, and it looks like he currently manages a hangar and crew at Van Nuys maintaining 2 Douglas A-26 Invaders in pristine flight ready condition. Any ideas? I was thinking of perhaps discussing a personal tour of the facility and getting up close to the planes. Also, he has lab access to produce the prints; he is solely interested in obtaining a 300DPI file. I know very few of the members here base their income solely on aviation photography, and perhaps could chime in and give me rough idea of how much to charge.

Just simply ask for a ride, you`ll never forget it and never afford it.

Other than that you can ask  $25.00 for the 12x18 and $50.00 for the 20x30......you can ask for more but you might get blown off.

You can get the 12x18 for $3.00 and the 20x30 at Costco for $8.99.

At the moment you're trying to get your foot in the door, be reasonable, then they will be the same with you.

I'd buy em the photos to go for a A-26 ride.....

Yeah, I like the idea of asking for a flight. Just simply give him both options, like "the pictures are this much or I'll give them up for a chance to tag along on the next ride".  And like Robin says it gets your foot in the door and lets them know who you are, and who knows where that can take you.  I always feel that if you can make yourself available as a photographer for as many people with airplanes the better, because you never know what will happen.

Thanks for the input. I gave him a call this evening and we discussed the "terms" of the deal. He promised a tour of the facility in which the A-26s are maintained and that he would talk to the owner regarding arrangement of a flight. He did mention that the flights with passengers are very sporadic and used mostly for business purposes; however, he would talk things over with the owner of the aircraft. He also said that he maintains a few B-25s that I would able to get into. I'm keeping my fingers crossed; at this point, I have nothing to lose. Thanks again, guys!

I've frequently given away 12x18s to such folks...the kind of access that such an act of generosity will produce is priceless.

I'm with Alan on this. Give the photos to them and use the opportunity to build a relationship with them. The access alone is worth more than what you could get for the photos. I'm doing the same thing for someone locally and have been offered air-to-air opportunities.
