My son works for a San Diego based company known as General Atomics. Any of you guys that frequent the Mojave Airport ever see any of those Predator or Reaper UAV or RPV aircraft take off or Land. My son tells me that all those flights as well as the flights in the middle east are all flown by pilots located in San Diego.

They're actually over at El Mirage, and don't get over to Mojave. The administration folks at Mojave have been lobbying for approval to operate UAVs in the airspace here, though.

My son corrected me  today and stated that all UAV pilots operate the aircraft from the high desert and not in San Diego.

Mojave's monthly "Plane Crazy" open house was naturally overshadowed by the Chino events, but the turnout was decent nonetheless, and since tomorrow kicks off National EMS week, Mercy and the CHP had their helos on display (Kern Co. Sheriff and Fire were invited, but were no-shows). Biggest treat with the surprise appearance of TBM's 1957-model C-130A, ex-Tanker 64. Oh, and anyone wanna buy a slighly-used Bellanca??

Does that C-130 fly....and if it does what does it do for a living. ? Sucks they don`t firefight anymore.

Also , do you know where that CHP ASTAR is based....i havent seen that N -Number before.

The C-130A is operated by TBM on lease to ASB Avionics, the folks at MHV who are doing the Tepper avionics mods. They're also developing an improved autopilot system, and that's the current project that which is being test flown on Tanker 64. I ran some shots of it last year on my blog (http://mojaveskies.blogspot.com/2008/07/50s-flashback.html ).

The CHP bird is H-80 out of Apple Valley.

The two ex-Flight Systems aircraft are still sitting out on the Speedline, but they haven't flown since Dick Lawyer died. He was the principal test pilot on these. Last program they flew on was the FedEx/Northrop Guardian anti-MANPADS MD-11 flight test series.
