I remember some of those old Convairs at Mugu, flying workers out to San Nicolas Island. I think their call sign was "Island Lord XX", or something like that.

I assume it was some sort of ex, but why was it run out of KLGB and not Los Al?

Same reason why the military loves going to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway and Grand Junction.

Pull in, hand the guy a credit card for gas, go watch football on the plasma. It's a lot more convenient for them.

(You get free sodas and pizza at Grand Junction as well)

makes sense...How do we talk them into coming to VNY more often? :)

Probably not VNY.  They go out to the Pacific to do their ACM and LBG is so close to the ocean.  I think that's why and the perks they get like Ken said.

Oh well. At least we have Chuck Thornton's T-38 and F-5, as well as some L-39's at VNY.
