Does the B-1 have to use afterburners to take-off? If not, why do it especially from Long Beach?

I THINK THE REASON THEY USED THEM ON MONDAY IS THEY HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS & WANTED TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE OK BEING THEY LOST THE CONTRACT AND ALL..DAMON REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE OUT THERE WHEN THEY WERE MESSING WITH THEM ON THE BLASTING AREA??
