Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade 2009
MAY 15 - 17, 2009 - NOTE - Parade is on Saturday May 16 only
Torrance CA.
Our nation's men and women of the military forces have defended our country, insured our freedom, and upheld the beliefs and principles that this great nation was built on. In May 2009, the City of Torrance continues its long-standing tradition and marks the 50th consecutive year it has been hosting an Armed Forces Day Celebration and Parade to honor the sacrifices of our nation's past and present military.
This year, the City once again honors the men and women of our nation's military with a three-day celebration that begins on Friday, May 15 and continues through Sunday, May 17. The Parade highlight is on Saturday, May 16, and next year's honored branch is the United States Navy. The City of Torrance is proud to help honor and thank the men and women of our nation's Armed Forces!

Yeah, a guy on a bike snagged my 100-300mm along with my rebel on his handle bar while I was walking to the parade route. It fell onto the ground, destroying the UV filter and smashing the flash brackets on my rebel. He looked back and just kept riding. Was very lucky everything still worked fine.
Thats not cool... he should have atleast said sorry. ::) ;D <wave>
Wont be attending this year. Hope to see some cool photos. :)

<rocker> great P&S
I need a 50D, Bad <rob>
Great stuff. Those who go, talk to the chopper pilots, ask when they depart and the time, you can get some fantastic shots. Remember also that last year they flew the Blackhawk out from the parking lot for the flyover of the parade, so if you are over there, even more great shots to be had..
A buddy of mine is going to try and ask the crews their departure times. The new structure was great. Got shots of:
E-3 Sentry(correction E-6 Mercury)
Lakota (from a distance)
F-16 144th FW (snuck up on me)
HH-65C USCG LAX (they were low)

F104Jim asked and one of the warrant officers said between 3pm and 5pm tomorrow. New parking structure would be a nice place if it were the morning. But they are in the lower area so. Good luck to those who go.
For Skip.
E-6 Mercury
Last one for now, getting ready for Chino tomorrow.
E-6 2nd pass.
144th FW Fresno CA, March ARB Det. They caught me by surprise.

Where is that camo huey from ?
Note the enlarged radome on the nose...it's one of only five JUH-1s in the world. Built to replicate the Russian Hind, these modified Hueys are operated as war game aggressors by OPFOR Platoon, NTC Aviation Company, NTC Corps Support Battalion out of Fort Irwin. Here's a pic from when a bunch of them visited Mojave in 2005.
Josh, you or anyone get the helos departing today??
