Well, definately Friday, but if Sno-Birds don't fly friday will be there on Saturday as well...
All depending me and my dad too. If he can make it that long. At the A-10 demo he was wanting to go. Yeah I don't see the Snowbirds at all on the schedule..... Hmmmm....
Quote from: desert rat on May 19, 2009, 12:54:47 PM
Well, if Midnight Mover (Robert) would have looked that is still the 2008 schedule.. They have not updated it yet. If you go to Sno-Birds website it is on the schedule there for Miramar 2009...
I had added the schedule to Roberts post but did not realize it was last years. Sorry Eric. :-\
If a lot of <apsocals> photogs are comming for Fridays air show, I'll have to be there friday as well to see all the APsocalers that will be there and some of the fencecheckers as well
For now at least list me for friday and saturday at the Miramar Air show. wow that will be a busy two weekends Sept 25 and 26 the Coronado Speed Festival and october 2 and 3 at Miramar. AS we get closer to this air show I'll pm you guys my cell number so we can get to gether.
I will be there like usual, all 3 days ;D but I think I will be in the stands this year <angel>
I'll be there on Saturday.
I'll be there Friday and Saturday for sure. Haven't seen the Snowbirds in quite awhile. My original plan was to do all three days, but now I am thinking of skipping Sunday and heading out early before Phancon check-in and maybe checking out Sunday evening's Balloon Glow at the Albuquerque Fiesta....
So has the Super Hornet definitely been cancelled or was that just a rumor?

It's true. :(
Argh.........bummer. Well I was just on the B-25 'Pacific Prowler' website, and it's listed as being at Miramar. If you haven't seen this one, it's a beauty, with awesome nose art.
Booked hotel last night. Good to go <thumbup>
Should definitely be there Sunday, still bartering with work to get Saturday off. It looks promising though, they know I'm 'hooked'. By the way Robert, thanks for the hotel room! <laughing> <rolf> <laughing>
I'll be in the Flight Deck chalet on Saturday.
Will probably be in the Grandstands Fri.
Kevin

Probably Friday on the ground we'll see.
What's Friday like? Never been on Friday, but for the first time in a long time, I can swing that day off work. Figure spend the night and double back on Saturday as well.
Snowbirds are an impressive show for those who haven't seen them.
Fridays are nice and less crowded. Sometimes you get arrivals too so not everyone is there. But after speaking to flygirlpainter(Shayne), guess they have to be there by Thursday. Not sure if that applies to the military crews as well. Traffic getting out is better too!!! That's my big reason
Sunday only for me this year.
While stationed at NAS Miramar. i must have at 12 aair shows in the 17 years I was based there on active duty. Thursday was usually a day that most of the visiting aircraft arrive and some very memorable and unique flying takes place. I have seen 3-4 very memorable thing over the years just being there on thursday. Unforunately I had so camera avialabe to get some shots. If anyone goes on thursday maake sure your camera is ready.
Also, the schedule is a bit more fluid on Fridays.

Well, I am in for Friday already.. Bought grandstand seats already...
It's been a few years since we last saw each other at an airshow (Chino a couple years ago I think). Maybe I'll see you at Miramar this year. I'll probably be hanging out in the eastern corner of the grandstands (with all those other Fencecheckers).
i was thinking about renting a prime lens for the show. 300 F/4L is or 400 F/5.6L

Yep, I believe it. 5 years running :P
Rain is not showing in the forecast I'm looking at... Low pressure front is moving in next week.
This is the year we get a cloud-free airshow.
I look at Intellicast (Has a 10-day forcast) and there looks to be know rain or chance on the horizon...Then again it is still 9 days out.

I know...part of me is fighting the urge to even saying anything and not jinx it. I was simply making the observation that for the first time in a while the 10 day forcast says nothing of clouds/rain.
OK, now i will shut up about the weather!
I can remember when the show was in August and it was routinely 120 degrees plus reflecting off the tarmac.
I spent 17 Years assigned to squadrons ( VF-2, VF-114, VF-124)at Miramar. I know full well how how hot the tarmac at Miramar gets in august and even into september. It seems that the only time you see clouds in august is when the air show is at Miramar in august. THe only time you see rain in October is when the Miramar Air Show is in October.
Showers now being predicted for Sat, Fri allegedly sunny. Guess it depends on who's weather forecast you look at.

Legend speaks of these odd lighting effects called
shadows and
highlights and apertures of
f11 or
f16. Shooting the flybys will mean dealing with
glare and this slowly moving extremely bright point light source called the
sun. With this illumination, Marine Corps aircraft could appear to have something called
color (other than red from leaking hydraulic fluid). (Shocking, I know, but that is what has been handed down from wise man to wise man since airshow immemorial.) It is also written that this "color" is something related to
Hi-Viz, but this was probably written when the Great Yellow God of Rochester produced some translucent analog media called
Kodachrome (and exaggeration with each retelling is to be expected).
There is more to be told of the old legends from the misty dawn of time (such as when the Tomcat roared at Miramar and Uncle Sam's Misbegotten Children were but guests at Fightertown USA), but it is late and that is all for tonight's bedtime story, young Padawan.
Uncle Craig's bedtime stories.....
No backtalk at bedtime - or you'll be out looking for 30 yards of flightline and two gallons of Microdol-X - and pondering the illogic of reciprocity success at the crack of dawn!
Hey Craig.....
Hey Skip.....
Hey Skip and Craig!
Hey Skip Craig & Damon <rolf>
I'll try to make it Thur-Sun. :)
im going...ill be there friday morning and saturday
Got my credential notification on Friday, so I'm definitely on for this one (although I'd probably go even I didn't have a credential...) <laughing>
I will be there Saturday & Sunday. Hope to meet up with some of you guys there. I'll be the guy with the weird hat on the fence line across from the handicap seating. Looks like they pulled the Raptor demo. Does anyone know the reason? ;D

The demo was cut 6 months ago along with the Super Hornet, but Miramar never updates their site until the last couple weeks before the show.

Wow, appears to be our biggest member presence at one place ever with 20 people on the list so far. Spread the word. ;) <apscs>
Hey Guys, I will be driving out Thursday night and be there for the entire weekend. Luckily, got a buisness trip for Monday so 1/2 my cost are cut by work. I will be out almost daily :)

I gave up on Intellicast recently. I found their forecasts for San Diego to be grossly inaccurate. I get better results out of Weather Bug, and real-time conditions reporting from a station two miles away.
I'm heading down Thursday after work, so i will see you guys there.

To anyone that has multiple tickets for a chalet... care to lend me your extra preferred parking pass? I usually get a chalet seat which nets me the preferred parking lot, but this year they're all sold out and I can't afford the chalets. I don't want to park on the 15 freeway though. :-X
Willing to Paypal a few bucks for one :)

Looks like I'm gonna miss this one due to illness. Gotta make a decision sometime today, I'll be putting up my grandstand seat tickets soon if I have to bail.
But anyways, is anyone planning to videotape any of the day shows as well as the night show? (or at least entire Snowbirds show, MAGTF, Blue Angels, and night show fireworks/wall of fire). Would like to get a copy from you if you are.

Yep they did a Sunday JATO...Was good to see it, and pretty sure I'm 99% certain it will be the last I will ever see. I got pictures, but he fired them off so, early (Way before center point) that he was directly in the sun when I snapped the pics and they were terrible.

Great shots Robert 8)
Did they do a sunday JATO? Or are you referring to Oceana? I saw somebody's JATO capture from the Miramar show and it looked like it was broad daylight, kinda surprised me.
What Realbigtaco said, I agree. FL is to far
"Yep they did a Sunday JATO...Was good to see it, and pretty sure I'm 99% certain it will be the last I will ever see."

You know i was wondering about this. After talking to you an Jim (I think Jim said he had over 220 gb, may be wrong) about how much data you guys get, what do you do with it all? I mean my external storage is only 320 gb, and DVD disc only hold what 4-8 gb. ???
Ok i finally got around to shooting RAW this past weekend, and good lord what a difference it made. My Jpeg picture was boring and then the post processed picture looks a million times better. Although i'm sure i am preaching to the choir here but i might need to start shooting RAW all the time now.
Here are 2 favorites from Thursday morning:
You become a shareholder of Western Digital! ;D
Great to see you again Robert, not a great day for shooting, horrid lighting out there, typical SoCal show position. Sorry i didnt make it to section 2, when do you go to Edwards? I may see you there, none of my other buddies are going. Cant make Nellis, after Edwards it might be Cable before i shoot any airplanes, gotta take the 100-400mm in for service, the zoom barrel gets stuck once in a while :P
Havent gone thru my shots from Sunday yet (havent started processing Reno yet =P), here are a couple quickies. BTW, the whole reason i shot from the east end, can be summed up by the third shot posted below.....WOW!!!
I'll give you a shout this week, L8R

The photos sit on very large HD until needed for me. My internal and externals are 1.5TB each. I am hoping black Friday will net some 2TB drives for less than $150. Each. But I am always running out of room. And DVDs forget them, not large enough.

You've got some great ctaches yourself! <thumbup>
Did anyone else notice the lucky guy in the backseat of #7 on Friday?
How about some Patriots?
I haven't seen much Viper West posted so here is one.
I like how the Blue Angels are going in all directions with a bit of vapor on each.
Moody lighting on this solo Golden Knight.
Afterburner takeoff, 1/6th second at 3200 ISO.
Night landing, 1/8th second at 6400 ISO. I can't believe I panned so linearly. :o Checkout that 10 runway marker! <rocker>

I always try to double back up my stuff. Although the DVDs don't hold much, I like to burn all my stuff, and then keep them in a fire proof safe at my parent's house. That way, if my apartment burns down, and I loose my external hard drives, I have them at my parent's place as well, or vice versa.

Sounds great. If the media is for real at Edwards I will be there Friday. Saturday for sure. Set up at the taxi way point to get all those great shots.

Yes, I was wondering when someone would catch that.
Take a look at the formation shots - he was doing some air-to-air also.

I guess I should post one shot.
I know it pails to others, but I have over 1700 shots I'm still going through.
The lighting lent to nice artsy stuff.

I didn't realize it at the time, and I don't think anyone else here did either.

Great compilation of photos and great coverage, Jim. Absolutely top notch!
Any of those for sale? <rolf> I'd love the sailplane with the wingtip smoke and the sparky night hang glider.
Killer shots Jim. ;)
Thanks! :)
Here is one for you C-5 lovers out there. :)
