Here's some shots of a local female Kestrel.
In Torrance?
About two months ago there were a couple of Kestral's chasing a Red Shouldered Hawk down at Pt Fermin.
It was awesome to have the Kestrals come head onto me and zoom climb up over my head.
I almost brought my camera that day......

Kestrels are known for being eaten by larger hawks and falcons. The one here chased off a Red Tail after about 20 mins of klees and a near death experience.
And for anyone who doesn't know... Kestrels are also, at times, called Sparrow Hawks and are actually diminutive falcons, not hawks at all. The Kestrels here are American Kestrel Hawks and do not descend from true Kestrels. They are more closely related to the Merlin (Pigeon Hawk), Bat, Aplomado & Orange Breasted Falcons of the Americas.
