Very cool shot Skip! 8)
They called it a B-26 in Vietnam....im pretty sure.
It flies all the time around Van Nuys , at least once a week.
The A-26 is one of those WWII aircraft that was workhorse that got little if any noterity. unlike the B-17 and the B-24.
I remember seeing this one the the VNY move. The polish job is emaculate!
There were two versions of the B-26. The B-26 Marauder and then the B-26C (later re-designated A-26C Invader)
B-26 was fatter and was the first one and there are maybe 1 or two still flying. I think Kermit Weeks had one. http://www.b-26marauderarchive.org/ (http://www.b-26marauderarchive.org/)
The latter one was the A-26 Invader and that is the one that quite a few left still flying and were used as fire bombers a lot. Like this one up in Vancouver, BC. Faster than the B-26 and came latter in the war. They were also used during Vietnam where a company here at Van Nuys, On Mark, converted them to counterinsurgency role. They were designated B-26K but for PC reason changed to A-26A. Upgrades engines, wing tanks ext.
Im familiar with the B-26 Marauder and the A-26 intruder but what version of the A-26 is the one i took a pic of ?
Back in WWII 26 B-26 were launched of the USS Hornet for an early in the war attack on Japan. I believe all the aircraft were crash landed in China.

That was the B-25 "Mitchell" and the Doolittle Raiders which just lost two more of their surviving members to time. <tomb>
Thanks Damon!!!
