I think I remember Damon saying something about that helo having mechanical problems. I might be wrong so dont quote me on that one Skip...   ;D

Wow I did, Skip?  yeah, I knew there were in town I went by to see if there were still there or not and Bush left but this one broke down, licky for me.  I walked out over near them (using 100-400, then the 24-105) but did not get that close to sw anyone.  I stay near Robinsons hanger and was talking with one of the employees that was there and he was showing me his autographes from Bush. Governator and Harman.  Never approached them to ask anything and they were on there  own.   I had posted pics before but were lost online with the last server issue.

I was at Santa Monica Airport earlier today and saw a CH-53 flying by the beach, this was around 3:30pm heading South.

That one was an MH-53 Pave Low in the movie I believe from Kirkland AFB in NM. Speacial Ops for the USAF.  CV-22 slowly replacing it.

Technically it a support helo for Marine One and the pres.  I think there might me a onl VH-3 out there in civilain reg if it was stripped enough.  You know it was well taken care of.

theres a few VH-3s operatering with  Siller Bros. Helicopters  for fire support, all the good stuff  is stripped off  and all are fixed landing gear, theres  some pics on airliners.net

Great shots of the 53s, guys. Sad to see a lot of them being retired. After having flown in a few 53s back in the USAF in the 80s, it was like a trip down memory lane.

No, that was the year that the PAO let some media to go to the other side of the runway.  That's the CH-53 that always takes off during the departures, but then flies to the south side of the field and sits there for 30 minutes with engines running.  I think the Marines on board came out with a football and tossed it around while they waited.
