happy Birthday to the 3rd oldest service in the United States, older than the U.S. Navy 224 years of duty to our Country. The first Coast Guard Air Station on the west coast was built in San Diego at Lindberg field and then moved to it's present location. This one service does their job everyday no matter the weather or sea conditions, thus saving lives.
A lot of people do not give any respect to the USGS, but I say "Thank you" and again Happy Birthday Coasties!

Ditto, thanks for posting
Just a historical note:
The first air detachment at Lindbergh Field was established in May 1934. The Air Station was commissioned in April 1937. In 1935 the Cmdr was Elmer Stone, a famed pilot, who had been the first winged naval aviator in the CG in 1917.
