On Saturday when I attended the Pt. Mugu airshow I was approached by someone who claimed to be NCIS. I can't believe the questions that the person asked and so forth. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? What does it matter what I do for a living now and so forth?
As with any law enforcement, if they don't look on the up and up, ask for a badge and ID, and if that doesn't convince you, ask if you can talk to their supervisor. By law, they have to provide you with all that information.

What did they ask?
Basically stupid questions. He started off by saying how he was asking people questions and that he had to protect US technology. He asked me what I was taking pictures off. He even asked me what I did for a living. What the hell is it is his concern what I do for a living. Basically he was a real ahole.

Was it Dinozo or Ziva.....oh wait it would be LL Cool J. Only time I was approached was after the QF-4 crash and if I had any photos that would help in the investigation.....

Yep, always check ;) There are impersonators out there :(
There is always a ton of "Official Security" at military base Air Shows. Find one and give a description of the individual that is questioning you. or point the individual out and let the Base Security handle it from there. Your personal safety is their primary concern.
Secret Service Agents follow people back home... ;)
If dude was legit he would have ID'd himself right up front and if there was a real concern he probably would have asked to see some form of ID from you, and he probably wouldn't be alone. I work in law enforcement and this sounds like a nut trying to emulate what he watches on TV. Like the others have said, when in doubt ask for his ID, and not just a quick flash of it, and/or his supervisor.

I've been questioned by the police many times. Doing what we do, we're bigger targets for law enforcement than the guy walking through the metal detector with a bazooka.
I just don't see an actual NCIS officer saying he has to "protect US technology." First of all, it's an airshow, and lets face it, if it's on display, it's going to get photographed.
Did he actually show you a badge or ID? Was he dressed appropriately to be a NCIS officer? I just can't believe an actual NCIS officer is going to bother you at an airshow asking what you're taking photos of. I've spent more than my share of time crawling under airplanes, into intakes, mounting my camera on a monopod to shoot the tops of planes, and never been approached once.
If you're truly concerned, contact the NCIS office for Naval Region South West.
Like Dan and Ken stated the Official Security officers would ID themselves to you so you know who your talking to and I suspect if they (the Real security officers) would ask you to come with them and question you in private and not out in front of the croud at the air show.
