I thought there was a Point Mugu thread here, but can't find it.
Anyways, what 2 hours sitting in a field will get you...

That's Mumaw blur. 8) Good job, gorgeous shot.
Thanks, but I wish this wasn't the only plane that landed in 2+ hours... :-\
And if you live in Ventura County and wonder why the Gas Company guy was late to your place, he was parked behind me in the field watching planes... or lack thereof... but he was there for over an hour.
dont hate on the Gas guy ::)
Hey Ken,
I was out there yesterday too, from about 2:30 to 4ish but i was at missile park. I saw about 6 E-2's come in and bounce for a while on the FCLP runway. I didn't catch the King CAG (great shot by the way) where were you sitting?
Scott
Across highway 1 on Las Posas. I don't do the missile park anymore, already had a run in with the base cops, who took my name but was pretty cool, but with my dad working at VX-30, I don't want anyone running my name and having his come up.

I've been desperate for that one for awhile. I was bummed, no furious, no INCENSED, that it wasn't on display at the airshow.
Saw him take off, figured he'd be gone for about 2 hours, so went to the beach to wait, and driving back, saw him on the downwind. Literally, pulled off, got this, got Banger 603, and was done. Didn't wait more than 2 minutes for both.
Bloodhound 340, 3 down and locked.

Great shots Ken.
Seriously, the Navy has to borrow their S3s from NASA now? :)
Not borrow, keep. This S-3 is a low-time, low-trap airframe and they're flying the wings off the ones they have now. The Navy wants to keep the S-3s with VX-30 to at least 2015 if not longer, P-3 parts are getting harder and harder to come by, so low time S-3 airframes are nice to have.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the info.
I guess not too many remain at AMARG?
The S3 was always one of my favorite planes. I can still remember seeing the first "Hoovers" on the ILS into Burbank back when I was in high school at Birmingham.
There's still a ton of them left at AMARC, but they have lots of hours and lots of traps on them, and aren't in flying condition right away. The Navy wanted low time airframes without a lot of carrier landings on them so they can still be serviceable and flyable for the next few years.
The NASA bird just needs a VX-30 logo and a LANTRIN pod and it's good go.

That is great.
I was thinking of parts from AMARG, but flyable S3s. Right, those probably have tons of hours on them.
By the way, I'm listening to KCMA and Mugu Approach right now at work on LiveATC..It sounds like it's fairly busy at Mugu this afternoon.
Saw a couple of E2s will turn the scanner on.
Nasa Viking left this morning heading back home.

Saw that. Talked with my dad, his buddy who's still at VX-30 says they still are supposed to a NASA S-3. But didn't NASA have a second S-3 that never got paint?
