15TH MEU ACE perform a VBSS Anti Piracy mission during work-ups. Top H-60 is C&C , AH-1W Cobra gun support , UH-1N has a Machine Gunner and Sniper......4 CH-46Es came in below to insert troops onto the ship.Top-cover 3 Harriers. Impresive operation

The glossy grey CH-53D's are nice. Guess the difference in the "D" is no refueling probe and one less engine than the "E".

I would assume the crews would have to be sitting in them at a minimum.

I took the pic the day before....the next day they were "on alert....and flying".
