A few CH53s doing sling load work.
and more...
Shot from the 5 fwy?
Yes...From various spots on the I5.
That CH-53E is from MCAS Miramar. There are no CH-53's based at Camp Pendleton. only Cobra's, Huey's and Seaknights and in the Future some Osprey's. MCAS Camp Pendleton is built along Vandergrift Boulevard Near Area 24 on base. Also known as Munn Field runway is 6000 x 200. Consult Terminal Proceedures for More info, the airfield is not viewable from Interstate 5.
Thank you for the info...But I am well aware of where the aircraft are from. I simply titled the post as the base in which the photos were taken.
Phil: I know. Good you started this thread. I worked C/P as a contractor for a couple months before returning to North Island. I was in a crew overhauling AH-1W Cobra helicopters. Hard to get pics on MCAS itself lots of people moving around all the time, Security is tight. Haven't been onboard C/P since 2007 The few pics i did get were mostly Cobras, one C-17 that landed and a couple C-12's. MCAS C/P is built on a swamp. If an aircraft lands short or rolls off the approach end of runway 3, it will be in mud at least up to the fuselage.
It is always nice to see a few helos when driving by CP. I once saw a Harrier on taxi on the east side of the freeway about six years ago. I could not believe it, I have not seen one since.
Yeah, it seems Harriers were a little more visable 4-5 years ago...I frequently drive that area and haven't seen a Harrier for years...
I did see a new Huey Yankee model last week...Couldn't get pulled over to get a shot though!
A photocall at CP would be cool..
