Title: C-5B Galaxy
Post by: Flygirlpainter on January 14, 2010, 05:14:10 PM
Hi since I live on March ARB I saw an AN-124 and C-5 come in so I took a few shots from near the flightline-in between watching for the SP's,,they don't like photos taken this close.. anyway, the sun was almost in my face,, but I didn't go to jail! I believe these are being loaded to go to Haiti.
The 124 was there all day, the C-5 landed as I was standing there...Isn't that a cool beast! I used to fly on them from Germany many years ago.....

Actually they look identical on the outside. Though they appear different on the inside. The C-5C's interior is modified to carry large satellites and large parts for NASA. All the Charlie models are based at Travis AFB. Wikipedia.com has a lot of facts about the different models of this beast.

Rear doors open differently too, like the old C-141 Starlifters for more clearance as well.

There are only two airframes: 68-0213 and 68-0216. As I understand it, one of them is pretty much near the end of it's life.  Post shuttle they both may go to the boneyard.
