El Centro Air Show 2010
I read in Fencecheck that the 2010 NAF El Centro Air Show is March 13, 2010.
I'll be there!
Perhaps the Yuma Airshow won't be on the same day this year...
Hope not for those planning on going.
Yuma is scheduled to be a week or two later. It's not the same weekend... unless something changes. Good news, because I'd like to go to Yuma as well.
I believe Yuma's show is now set for March 27.
Yuma is on March 27th...
Toss in Davis-Monthan AFB on March 20-21 and it's going to be a very busy month...
El Centro Air Show 2010 <rocker>

Where are You guys going to meet at?
Who is going to El Centro? I'm going to try to be on base by 7am (Navy Retired you know) If your in line by then and see a Maroon color SUV roll by, It could be me.
Weather for Saturday March 13, 2010
Most;y sunny daytime high 79F over nite low 54F
look like a good day.
I am now able to go but It will depend if i can get some gear in time to go.
ok, got some gear, now im ready to go
Hope every one has a blast. Get some great shots ;)
Wish I could have gone but family duty calls :(
Here's a couple shots from the friday practice. ;D
Are you going today Nate? or on laptop?
No, I won't be making it. :( To all those that are, enjoy the new Minimum Radius Turn to Tailstand. We watched that maneuver progress all through Winter Training and it is looking GOOD now. Since they flew it yesterday at the practice show, it kinda confirms that the FAA did indeed certify it as safe. 8)
The tailstand is performed while 5 is exiting the modified MRT right towards the crowd. It's really awesome, and it's going to be vapor city at Miramar.
Jim called me and said everyone got kicked out of the hay bale spot yesterday before the BAs went up............ >:(

It's true, it was right as the F-16/P-51 Heritage Flight was airborne.
It's common practice for them to block off Low Road during the actual airshow, but usually not for the practice day. We were all a little surprised that they suddenly decided to do so halfway through the day on friday... but oh well. We should be happy and consider ourselves blessed that we get to go out there period. I'm
hoping something didn't trigger this, especially something that could endanger ANY of our normal Winter Training viewing. Because that would really suck.
There have been some yahoos lately acting wild out there. I don't know if it's true, but someone was also saying some dude in an RV pulled right up on top of the fence, just within feet of it-- and in the way of RWY30. Which spurred them to come kick everybody out. I didn't see that, but I wasn't really paying a lot of attention to the fence. If true, that's really annoying. People with no flippin' common sense don't belong out there.
Heard from Kitty (Blue Angel 4) ...he wanted to let everyone know that it was not the choice of the team for what happened yesterday. The FAA officials at the show pushed to have the area cleared out. They have the authority to stop the show if they deem something unsafe.
A few pics. I was next to Desert Rat most of the day. the weather was very windy from about 11:00 AM, winds gusted to 35 MPH and John Cullver, Bill Cornick and Spencer Suderman did not fly.
Some shots of the VFA-125 F-18 Hornet flight demo.
Here are a few shots of Gregory "Wired" Colyer's beautiful former USAF T-33A Shooting Star.
Here are 7 shots of Mr. Spencer Suderman in his beautiful red and black Pitts Meteor aircraft.
Again this year the NAS Fallon Longhorn Search And Rescue Team was at NAF El Centro doing their demo in a SH-60F Seahawk helicopter.
THese pics for Midnight Mover or is it Robin990, APSoCal's "Resident Helicopter Expert."
Thi B-25J recieved its Airworthiness Certificate in the fall of 2009 after being painstakingly rebuilt by the Arizona Wing of The Commorative Air Force. Named "Maid In The Shade" The 2010 NAF El Centro Air Show was the first air show it had participated in. The aircraft had not flown in 28 years until the Arizona Wing got it and put it back together. This B-25J has an original Norton Bomb Sight in the nose, mounted and viewable. Later I'll post a bunch of static shots of this aircraft.
Nice shots rander
I think I got some interesting angles with some this year :)
;)

On display 2 Navy MH-60S one from HSC-3 in standard configuration. The other from HSC-21 as an air ambulamce.
one HH=65 USCG helo from Coast Guard Station Los Angeles.
One USMC CH=46E from HMM-163
One NAS Fallon Longhorn SH-60F SAR helo that was on display when it wasn't flying.
Below are two shots of the HSC-21 air ambulance. It is equipped with air inlet filters for landing in dusty conditions.
Here are a few of my Blue Angel shots More to follow ....
The first pic is The Boss, Commander McWherter, leading the troops out for the first air show of the Blue Angels 64th season.
Thanks for taking that one. I wasn't able to do any statics because of my leg. I was just happy to get to and from the crowd line. Got a lift over in a golf cart though, when I was limping over in the morning by a very kind staffer! <cheers>
A few more. Finally caught a good exit from a jump plane in the first one. :D
One of my favorites... ;)

In order to get in that position the pilots did 270 degree opposite rotation rolls to make the left and
right turns.

Just so every one knows
Blue Angels #1 and #6 are F/A-18C models
Blue Angels #2, #3, #4 and #5 are F/A-18A models
Blue Angel #7 is a F/A-18B model
The Blue Angels are in their 24Th season in the F/A-18 Hornet.
During the El Centro Air Show on Saturday Lt Walborn flying BA#6 had to land about 12 minutes into the show. He parked #6 near where #7 was parked, got into #7 started engines, taxied, took off and joins the remainder of the show like nothing happened.
Maid in the Shade, Fat "Ernie" prepares to push over on the combat approach, and the Blues reflecting with Boss McWherter on final.. and the Shooting Star "Ace Maker" crossing the bales. All shot on friday.

:o Awesome shots Britt! Love the head on of the Landing with the reflection of the gear.
What were the two solos doing when there gear was coming up (presumably)? Were you at the hay bales? I can't think of a part in the show that you would get that kind of shot.

Thanks for the comments! For that shot, I was on the OTHER side of the runway since they shooed us off from the hay bales that day. So I believe that was the end of the dirty mirror pass by the solos.
