Just a bit more than two whole weeks until Slidetoberfest! For those who are a bit skeptical about attending.....remember that this is a show for ALL AVIATION PHOTOGRAPHERS! DON'T LET THE NAME FOOL YOU into thinking that just because you shoot digital, there is no place for you at this show. It is NOT geared only towards those who did, and / or still do, use film for their aviation photography. If you want to come and show off your prints, this is the place to do it. A number of attendees have already expressed interest to me regarding photography on this website.
We all have the same basic hobby and whether we use film, digital, or even video formats, we all have the same goal of preserving aviation history through the lenses of our cameras. If that is your hobby....then this is the show for you!
Aviation photographers will be attending from all over the world. We have old-school pros coming and semi-pro amatuers from all across the country. One photographer is bringing 100,000+ slides dating all the way back to 1965 from his tour in Vietnam. So if you have anything related to aviation and photography you would like to sell, trade, or just show off.....just bring it! This event is totally free!
Also....we are still awaiting positive confirmation, but a friend of mine who works for Canon in their marketing department put in a request to have one of their reps possibly attend the show with their newest equipment on show.

If you missed it before, here is the location and date info:

Damn, sounds cool....I wish I could go...  Reminds me I still want to scan some of the air to air Phantom shots from a buddy of mine.  No time....

Whose shots are they? Joe Cupido by chance? He will be at the show this year.....not sure if he is on this group or not, but I doubt it. You should come out.....there are plenty of people coming in that you can share a hotel room with in order to minimize cost. Besides, the show itself is completely free.....unlike the show they have over at LAX twice a year where it costs money not only to get a table, but also just to get inside to see what is there! I always attend the LAX show and sometimes they have some nice slides, negatives, and photos, but "Slidetoberfest" is made solely for aviation photographers......so if you consider yourself an aviation photographer, then this is the place for you!

For those of you who might even have just a passing interest in attending our slide convention this October.....one of our attending photographers has a Cessna 182 Skylane lined up for photo flights down to Marana on Friday, October 19th and Sunday, October 21st. These flights are open to all Slidetoberfest attendees and will include a flight from Mesa - Falcon Field (FFZ) down to Marana - Pinal Airpark (MZJ). Photos of the stored and visiting aircraft can be taken from the Cessna during flight or taxi, but no photos can be taken from outside our parked aircraft on the ramp there. More than likely, only touch and go operations will be allowed, with the possibility of a landing and back-taxi to take off again.....FULL STOP LANDINGS ARE PRETTY MUCH OUT OF THE QUESTION AT MZJ.

Payment for the flight will be arranged through the pilot....if anyone who plans on attending Slidetoberfest is interested in taking one of these flights, please let me know. Feel free to contact me anytime at wilkeningjarrod@yahoo.com.

This year's convention already has nearly 50 photographers from around the world who have confirmed their attendence. Many will be bringing high quality Kodachrome slides of historical aircraft at rock bottom prices! Our slide show on Saturday night will include images of aircraft types, airlines, and paint schemes that have not been seen for years. If any of you have slides, negatives, or prints you would like to sell, trade, or just exhibit during the show, this is the place to do it. This is the only convention remaining in America devoted specifically to selling aviation slides, negatives, and prints and the viewing of aviation images long forgotten. Again, information regarding dates, times, and location can be seen below:

For nearly the past 15 or so years, "Slidetoberfest" has been held annually in Phoenix, Arizona where local aviation photographers get together to view, show, and sell their photography to other aviation enthusiasts and collectors. The 2012 show, catering to aviation photographers from around the world, is being posted here on APSoCal for the first time! This year, it promises to be much bigger than it ever has been in the past since we have invited aviation photographers, young and old, shooting both film and digital formats from all around the globe. We will have a 35mm projector with a stack loader for slide film, so bring whatever you think the audience will appreciate. Everyone else....bring prints if you want to sell them, a number of attendees have already asked if prints will be available for sale. Attached are samples of the kind of 35mm photography that you will see at this show. The first attached image might look like a familiar location to some of you that I've escorted in the past. I also threw in a few more goodies to help peak interest. And yes, this is the kind of quality photography that you will find at SLIDETOBERFEST!

Dear Aviation Photography Enthusiasts!

We are trying something new for this year's Slidetoberfest in Arizona! We will be having a full "commercial venue" slide trading and selling show for the first time at the La Quinta Inn and Suites, Chandler (I-10 at Chandler Blvd with complete address below). The reason for this is two fold. First, it will give us the opportunity to have ample parking without worrying about angering neighbors and secondly, the outside weather will no longer be a factor contributing to the comfort of the evening slide show! Based upon the weather we have already encountered this year, I would not take any bets that the weather will be cooperative for an outdoor slide show. The slide trading show will begin at 7:00 AM and run to around 7:00 PM. Then after that, we will have our fantastic slide show from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM (dinner in between).

Due to the advancing digital technology, this will likely be one of the last shows of its kind in America dedicated to the hard core slide photographer and collector. There are still a number of spare slides available for the collectors. After all, slides have been the staples for professional and advanced amateur aviation photography for over 60 years and most aircraft photographed before 2002 were likely taken on slide film. Slides are also still used today! We will be displaying both Military and Commercial Aviation slides. This would be the ideal time to bring your spare slides and collection slides for selling and/or trading. For those who plan on attending, you may also bring negatives (35mm and large format), prints, or any other kind of aviation memorabilia related to aviation photography. Please note that the main subject is still slides and we are not putting much emphasis on the success of selling other aviation items.

Our Slidetoberfest will not have any admission price for particpants but we are paying for the room out of our own pockets so any voluntary donation to us would be greatly appreciated at the time of the meeting sort of like a collection plate. Please help as much as you can to compensate for our hard work putting this show together for you. Come visit us to buy, trade, and sell slides or just socialize with your aviation enthusiast friends. There will be plenty to look at in our meeting space and again, the evening's fun slide show is sure to inform and entertain. We even have some folks that are interested in coming from Canada, England, France, Japan, and the Netherlands, who will likely bring great spares from their countries.  In addition, besides the veteran photographers who will be at the show, many new faces from across the United States will also be attending. One confirmed slide shooter has already promised that more than 60,000 of his spares (99% of which are Kodachrome) will be available at the show.

"Help us keep the aviation slide hobby alive for all of us"

We hope to see you there. Please call or e-mail Joe Fernandez (512-395-7223 / n314as@yahoo.com) or Jarrod Wilkening (713-320-3861 / wilkeningjarrod@yahoo.com) for further details and information.
