on a Vegas trip in April I spent an afternoon shooting photos at McCarran Airport, Actually, I shoot either at the Jack in the Box as Las Vegas Blvd/Sunset or Sunset/Eastern. That afternoon I got lucky and got 3 different Janet aircraft...These were taken at Las Vegas Blvd/Sunset...

Come join me at BJs Corner near Plant 42.  It'll be easy there to get some good shots.  ;)

Not likely, Baby. But thanks for the invite.

I wonder what becomes of the people they do photograph.
I'm sure they run the registered owner of the vehicle through CLETS, DOJ and FBI for criminal history just for kicks. They may keep the photos on file just in case it ever became relevant (like if 2 months down the road they have problems with that particular individual) , but that's probably the extent of it.

Where is the notch?  Janet and the T38 appeared to be landing on the main runway.  Is 40th West on the other side of the base from BJ's Corner?

Lol base security would photograph me photographing planes?  As long as I'm on public property and even on the other side of a road, they can't really say or do anything can they?  My father in law is an Air Force vet and that's what he told me.  He said if they didn't want the place seen at all, they would not have built smack in the middle of a busy city and have the planes flying in broad daylight.  How likely is it really to get arrested/equipment confiscated/generally harassed by base security?

At North Island all the base civilian police will do, as long as you are truthful and honest with them is to inform you that taking photographs of U.S. Government property including aircraft and ships with out written permission, is a violation of federal law. There have been instances at Dog Beach where the City of Coronado Police Departmnt has in the past, strictly enforced the federal law even if the base civilian police just stands and   watches.  I feel that it is unlikely that the local base civilian police will confiscate your equipment as long as you are truthful and honest with them. The local off base police/sheriffs may be a different story. The most the on base police will do is to ask you to delete all the photos you took and ask you to leave the area.

AS a personal note, I carry 2 photo cards one is always empty and quickly avialable to quickly pop in my camera so if they ask I can show "no images" and the police will go away.

I wonder what becomes of the people they do photograph.  That's kinda scary.

Anyone of the usual suspects want to chime in on that?

Remember, it's an active military base and production facility.  Base Security has good reasons to patrol the perimeter and at a minimum monitor who is hanging around with photographic equipment.

Actually - I'm steering this off topic.  This should probably be in the Plant 42 Thread.

Yup.  And your vehicle and you vehicle's license plate.  It has happened before out there at the notch.

But yes, as long as you are on the correct side of the road (not on base property) they will just observe you.

I will remember that.. note to self.. park on other side of street from base.  Got it. I wonder what becomes of the people they do photograph.  That's kinda scary.

It's easier to get them at the notch or at 40th west when they come in on 22.

True.
But base security doesn't photograph you at BJs either.
