We had a group from here that conducted military honors for vets' burials. A BGen and Capt headed the group. They not only did honors at local cemeteries, but also Riverside National Cemetery.

During a local salute to vets, they were accorded all the proper courtesies for their ranks, even from an active duty soldier wounded during the Gulf War.

I did a little digging and found out that these guys were fakes. The BGen was actually a retired LtCol and the Capt a retired senior NCO!

I went after them and, by the time the truth was brought out in the local paper and I met with the folks at Riverside National Cemetery, these guys evaporated from the scene.
The "General" had this defense... Their uniforms had slightly different buttons than genuine issue military uniforms. What a crock!

They also made very disparaging remarks about the local VFW which also provided military honors for vets and whose team was made up by a majority of combat vets.

Happy Veterans Day to all the REAL veterans out there.

Thank You. I proudly spent 21 years in The U.S. Navy. I also spent my Veterans Day onboard The Midway Museum talking with other Veterans and touring a navy ship. I also took over 200 pics that I'll put up in the Midway Museum thread.

The fact of the matter is that this type of thing happens more than you like to think about. At one time there were 3 guys like Burton claiming to be Navy Seals, with  ribbons and medals they never earned. Only problem, none of them ever served. One got arrested, the others I never heard about. All 3 got their pictures shown on local television.

What to do with him? Stick him on the front lines in Afghanistan in shorts, T-shirt with a spoon in his hand, and let him see what real combat is like.
And a nice day glow orange hat.... for good measure and visibility

This guy was going for broke! Navy Cross, Purple Hart, and the Bronze star. You know I'm sure he gets hundreds of people going up to him and thanking him for all he has done.   :-\

I say make him do volunteer work at a military base (although I'm sure you can't just volunteer there) and see what real Purple Hart recipients have to go through in order to earn that medal.
