This angle can be had from 50th St East (east side of road) north of Ave N.

Shoulder is not in the greatest shape (narrow and soft in most places) and sometimes the northbound traffic can get dangerously close. Not advisable.

West shoulder is not an option as it is on the base side and will garner you unwanted attention.

I'll remember that.  I'll try that spot next time.  I was just there and saw lots of C130 TNGs but the 747s just sat parked.  I was using my sis-in-law's phone to check flight aware periodically while waiting around at BJ's Corner and it went from saying 'delayed' to not even appearing on the scheduled departures list.  Canceled no doubt.  Just my luck.

This guy was doing TNGs.  What is he? 


This and 2 or 3 others were doing TNGs after the one with the radar dome left. 


I shot those at two different times of the day.  I think I prefer AM light.  The C130 was so back-lit. 

Some time after the C130s left, a F-18 did a TNG and left.  I got some pictures of him too, but he was too far for any of the shots to be any good.

Wow, even that far back?

I better be more careful.  I have been back from the base on the North side of N, probably midway from the perimeter fence and 50th East next to the farming area.    Nobody has hassled me, but I guess I have just been lucky.

I did get stared down from a distance by security when I was at BJs corner once.   Not sure why, I was just watching and never had my camera out since nothing was flying.

That's a Navy E-2C Hawkeye from the USS Nimitz & probably out of Pt Mugu. I think I counted 7 touch n gos before he left. Normally they'll do about 3 and head out. I caught him but haven't had time to work on the pics yet. Got something coming up tomorrow AM + the bike race to shoot as well, so am hoping to get my Hawkeye shots up tomorrow afternoon.

I briefly moved over to the Notch to catch the Channel Island C-130s do their dramatic mid-field break, and was stared down by security for whatever the reason. Not like they haven't seen me there before, lol

Brian...thanks for posting those...didn't realize that the -18 was an Aussie bird. I take it you didn't catch the F-22 that was out and about today?

Here's the NASA S-3 Viking that went out this morning (thanks Jim & Keith). Unfortunately it lined up in the middle of the diagonal runway, and took off to the southwest - I was along Sierra Hwy south of BJs Corner. Once airborne it turned and began a slow u-turn but by they time it was in front of me, as you can see, it was right in the sun.

Finally bagged some 747-8 take off shots.  I couldn't stay for the landing.  I was quite happy I got to see her take off.  These were shot from BJ's Corner.  Anyone know this one's tail number?
