EHAM

Hi all,

Recently I had the pleasure to meet Keith at AVQ and TUS who advised me about the APSoCal community. I did some browsing through the website and forum, so now it's time for my first post: an introduction.
My name is Joost de Wit, I'm 26 and I work and live near Amsterdam-Schiphol airport (hence my nickname EHAM), The Netherlands, Europe. About twelve years ago I took my first aviation photos and I haven't stopped since. My dad is an aviation photographer as well (from the Kodachrome 64 generation), so it's no surprise I caught the planespotting bug at a young age.
I've got quite a broad interest when it comes to aviation photography: l shoot both MIL and CIV; anything from airliners to warbirds to helicopters to bizjets/bizprops and so on. As long as it's motorized, manned and size PC-12/Ce208/PA34 or larger.

Obviously I do most of the aviation photography at my local airport, but since 2014 I've made an annual spotting trip in November to the south western part of the United States. Compared to my home country (or all of north western Europe for that matter), the south western part of the U.S. offers:
1. More sunshine (which is a "must" for my photos)
2. More planes
3. More interesting planes

I'm hoping to use this community to gain more knowledge about the many airports in the area, which will help me prepare my future trips, but I would also like to share my experiences with fellow photographers who are looking for information. And of course I would like to share some of my favourite photos that I took during my spotting trips for everyone to enjoy  :).

Most of my photos can be found on Airliners.net, but I also have my personal website: www.aviaspotters.nl. Here you will also find my extensive trip reports.

Perhaps I overlooked it, but a great addition to APSoCal would be a forum with logs and expected movements for the various airports in the area. In The Netherlands we have the Scramble community (www.scramble.nl) for that: every day planespotters share logs and the special movements that are expected for most of the airports (big and small) in the country. E.g. tomorrow there is a brand new Polish government B737-800 expected at Amsterdam airport and even the arrival and departure times are mentioned. So now I know that I'd better take my camera with me to work tomorrow!
I do know about FlightAware, which is a great help but not perfect as it is incomplete and not always accurate. So a forum with daily logs and expected movements may be a great way to enhance this community.

If you have any questions please let me know  :)

Kind regards,

Joost de Wit
