March Air Show 2014 - Canceled

March AirFest '14: Thunder Over the Empire Canceled

MARCH AIR RESERVE BASE, CALIF. -The March Air Reserve Base 2014 Air Show: Thunder Over the Empire, has been canceled. Although the government shutdown has come to an end, fiscal constraints created by the Budget Control Act of 2011, combined with the uncertainty created by operations under a limited continuing resolution, make it impossible to properly plan for such a large event.

Statement of Colonel Samuel "Bo" Mahaney, Commander, 452d Air Mobility Wing: "I did not make the decision to cancel March AirFest '14 lightly. In a democracy, it is important to bring citizens onto the installation to see firsthand where their tax dollars go, to rub shoulders with our military members and get close to the weapon systems of our armed forces. Unfortunately, because of the reality of the current fiscal environment and the uncertainty of the future after January 15th, the only fiscally responsible and prudent action was to cancel the event."

March ARB air shows have been conducted every other year, with the last one being in May 2012, which drew more than half a million spectators throughout the three-day event.
