I wouldn't get real worried about the 1500 feet just yet... if the parade aircraft are at 1500 feet then I'd definitely have to laugh at the fact that they are putting grandstands up. What altitude were the Red Bull aircraft at? I wouldn't expect the parade aircraft to be 8 times higher... maybe 2 or 3 times, but not 8...
I would imagine it will look like this:

i was hopeing the Paeade of Flight would be at 300 ft. I really dont want to have to use my tamron 200-500. i prefer my 70-300 instead. at 1,500 Feet I may not have an option.

I haven't heard to much about this one, but could be kind of cool:

Naval Aviation Film Screening: Hollywood & North Island
Date: February 5, 2011
Time: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location: Lowry Theater, Naval Air Station North Island (NASNI)

The Coronado Historical Association (CHA), in collaboration with the
Office of Morale, Welfare & Recreation of Navy Region Southwest and the
USS Midway museum's Historian Karl Zingheim, will present a two-hour
educational program on Saturday, February 5, from 2-4 pm, at the Naval
Air Station North Island (NASNI) Theater. "Hollywood and North Island"
will feature a variety of movie clips and a full-length film that
portrays North Island and its naval aviators.

Karl Zingheim will present a montage of clips from various films and
speak about North Island as a shooting location for Hollywood films. In
the lobby of the theater, CHA will provide a preview of their newest
exhibit, WINGS OF GOLD: CORONADO AND NAVAL AVIATION exhibit. A feature
film made in 1941, Dive Bomber, starring Fred MacMurray and Errol Flynn,
will be shown. The film is in color and includes many scenes shot on
base at Naval Air Station North Island.

During the event, CHA will honor Frank "Spig" Wead, a former naval
aviator whose career was known for his flight against British pilots in
the international seaplane races off the Isle of Wright in 1923, when
American naval fliers took all the honors. His life took a turn after an
accident in 1926, just after moving into his home in Coronado. Running
down the stairs after hearing his daughter scream, he fell and broke his
neck resulting in paralysis.

A determined and hardworking man, Frank turned to screenwriting and has
to his credit Hell Divers (1931), Airmail (1932), Ceiling Zero (1936),
Test Pilot (1938), The Citadel (1938), Dive Bomber (1941), and Destroyer
(1943). John Ford directed a film called The Wings of Eagles in 1957,
starring John Wayne, portraying Wead's contributions to naval aviation.

This event is free and open to the general public. Civilians are welcome
to walk into the base via the Pass & Decal parking lot, adjacent to the
Stockdale Gate, on the corner of 3rd Street and Alameda Boulevard. Once
on base it's a short walk to the theater. Walk straight ahead, turn left
at the first signal light and the theater will be on the right hand
side. If you would like to RSVP and pre-register your vehicle to drive
on base for the Film Festival, please call 619-545-0046 or email
Debora.Allen@navy.mil. For information about the Film Festival, please
call 619-545-8042.

IIRC, the gates open at 800am.  Takes about 1 1/4 hrs to drive down, so you're leaving at approx 630am just to get there when the gates open.  If you want to skip traffic, you'll have to leave earlier.   How early do you want to wake up?

I've seen traffic backed up from the gate, all the way through town, all the way across the bridge for a work day, but I don't know how many people were coming to work, nor do I know how long it takes to get through such a line.

I figure if I leave around 5 as I live in Santa Ana I should get there early enough to get in line. Be interesting to see how they handle the traffic situation. Not sure why they are holding it at North Island with the amount of people that plan to show up.

If you are able to get on base Saturday, where should one sit up? Is anyone interested in carpooling down?

It's happening at NASNI for historical significance, and the wow factor of a high profile kick off event through San Diego Bay. :)

Got my media approval confimation letter today... there will be a media tent at show center, but it makes no mention of being on the flight deck of the Stennis, so I'd guess that's a no.

It's going to be a lot of fun however it goes, I'm looking forward to it. (Have been on diaper and bottle detail for the last 2 months -- getting a bit stir crazy). ;)

One bit of good news for those who have Media Credentials on Sat.

The gate the MEDIA will use on Sat is the VIP gate and not the one the gen public will use to enter the base.

Did I read somewhere that MEDIA also gets to park in a designated lot?
Canon stuff.

So how about us that do not have a media pass lol. Would five am be a good time to leave? Where would one recommend to set up on the base? I am curious if anyone would like to carpool down?

I just got approved for media as well. Yes there will be a special place for media to park, and a tent with show center view of the Parade of Flight.
