Centennial of Aviation LAX 2010

Historic aircraft to be showcased

10/6/2010

From the Daily Breeze

Los Angeles International Airport's Flight Path Learning Center and Museum continues a yearlong salute to the 100th anniversary of Southern California aviation with a benefit Wednesday. The public is invited to the 5:30 p.m. event at Flight Path, which is in the Imperial Terminal at 6661 W. Imperial Highway in Westchester. The theme is "Centennial of Aviation."

A reception will precede a dinner, with airport Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey as the keynote speaker. Dinner will be served in a tent adjacent to the airfield with a view of aircraft operations and other airport activities. Featured will be historic aircraft including the Douglas DC-2 and DC-3, Grumman F7F Tigercat and North American B-25 Mitchell, all on display near the tented area. A centerpiece of the celebration will be an exhibit of historic photos from the 1910 Dominguez Air Meet, often called the "birth of aviation" in Southern California. Also featured will be an audiovisual program spotlighting local aviation history. Entertainment will feature the Hyperion Outfall Serenaders jazz combo.
Tickets to Flight Path's 14th annual fundraiser are $100 and go toward scholarships. Reservations are requested by calling 424-646-7284.

The Clay Lacy and Charles "Pete" Conrad scholarships will be presented to students planning careers in aviation. The museum is a joint venture of the Flight Path Learning Center of Southern California, a nonprofit community group organized in 1995 to develop and promote the museum, and Los Angeles World Airports, the city agency that operates LAX.

Wow very last minute or bad PR and with the weather, I doubt Clay will bring any aircraft with him.  But is seems like a nice event.
