Awesome *at home* catch today. For those that don't know, I live 1/2 mile south of Hemet Ryan Airport (GA airport). Hemet also lies under the favored corridor between Miramar/Pendleton and Twentynine Palms, so we have a high volume of USMC helicopter traffic, and every once in a while one throws us a bone with a random low approach or brief pattern work at the airport. Generally they only do this long enough for me to jump in my truck before suddenly bugging out and continuing on.

I was in my driveway, minding my own business today when this Osprey comes ripping over my neighborhood nacelles fully transitioned forward, at less than 200' AGL. I barreled into the house and practically mowed down both my kids as I went for my camera upstairs. I flew down the stairs and out the front door as my wife was yelling "what are you doing?!" and somehow managed to grab some shots of the tail as he flew to the east. Well that was neat, would be nice if he came back... wait... could it be... no way... He's in the downwind and turning base... he's coming back...

So I ran back inside the house with my wife still yelling "what are you doing?!" and grabbed the keys to the truck, yelling over my shoulder "be right back!" as I flew out the door, and hauled ass down to the airport to get this Marine Osprey. When I got there, I noticed through the viewfinder that this was a very dark gray Osprey... Making it a USAF CV-22. Wow, did I luck out or what? To be the first Osprey ever to come down and grace our runway at Hemet, it sure was nice to be a RARE one at that. :D

He ended up doing 6 more stop and goes, each time heading out he would fully transition to forward flight, racing through the downwind, and coming back. I was pretty stoked. With the kids and everything, I don't get out much anymore. ;)
